(Oilandgaspress) 27/07/26, – Woodside as Operator of the Browse Joint Venture welcomes the Western Australian Government’s decision to grant State Significant Project status to the proposed Browse to North West Shelf Project. The designation reflects the proposed Browse to North West Shelf Project’s strategic importance to Western Australia while providing a framework for enhanced whole-of-government facilitation and support.

State Significant Project status represents the highest level of prioritisation available under the Western
Australian Government’s Lead Agency Framework, which is designed to guide proponents through the
approvals process. It will support coordinated engagement as the project progresses towards key approvals and development milestones.

The Browse to North West Shelf Project is expected to support reliable domestic gas supply while delivering significant economic benefits for Western Australia.

An independent economic impact assessment indicates the project delivers benefits well beyond the oil and gas sector, and could deliver a long-term uplift of around A$141 billion in gross domestic product nationally and approximately A$56 billion in taxes and royalties, including around A$19.8 billion in petroleum resource rent tax.
