Aston Martin's £2.5m Valkyrie hypercar
Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group Chief Executive, Andy Palmer, said:
“It was always the intention for the Aston Martin Valkyrie to be a once-in-a lifetime project, however, it was also vital to us that Valkyrie would create a legacy: a direct descendent that would also set new standards within its own area of the hypercar market, creating a bloodline of highly specialised, limited production machines that can exist in parallel with Aston Martin’s series production models. I’m thrilled to announce that this car is the Project ‘003’, and our next step into a dynamic and exacting arena.”Aston Martin has vowed to ‘create the ultimate expression of the internal combustion engine’. Just 175 Valkyrie’s are due to be built in partnership with the Red Bull F1 team. Of those, 150 will be road-going cars and the remaining 25 upgraded to track-only AMR Pro versions – a £3million toy for the world’s billionaires – and all will feature this monumental 65 degree angle 12-cylinder powerplant according to media reports. Aston Martin is adamant that only a naturally-aspirated engine will do, so there are no turbochargers or superchargers found here. With development of its new V12 progressing apace the time is right to reveal some closely guarded secrets of the Aston Martin Valkyrie’s extraordinary powerplant. Developed in conjunction with longtime technical partner Cosworth, the new V12 had to satisfy a simple, yet extraordinary brief: to create the ultimate expression of the internal combustion engine.
The programme called for a normally aspirated engine from the very beginning, for while turbocharging has absolutely come of age and offers significant and widespread benefits – especially in a road application – the greatest driver’s car of the modern era demands an internal combustion engine that sits at the absolute pinnacle for performance, excitement and emotion. This means the uncompromising purity of natural aspiration.
