U.K. debuts green markings on number plates for electric vehicles
Vehicles registered on or after 1st September 2020 will be on a 70 plate. The 70 series were initially released in May 2020. You don’t need to own a vehicle to buy a ’70’ plate.
The 70 plate will also be the first to debut green markings for electric vehicles. The number plates will have a green flash on the left side. This will also be seen on plug-in models from this autumn.
The green number plates will make it easier for cars to be identified as zero-emission vehicles, helping local authorities design and implement new policies to encourage people to own and drive them.
So far in 2020, battery electric cars account for one in 20 new vehicles registered.
