Immokalee Water & Sewer District Modernizes with Xylem Digital Solutions

Smart water technology to enhance operational efficiency and resilience

WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Immokalee Water & Sewer District in Collier County, Fla. selected Xylem (NYSE: XYL) and Core & Main (NYSE: CNM) to advance its digital transformation initiative. The utility will soon manage meters remotely, track residential water pressure, check water quality, and more with Xylem digital solutions. The modernization will create a comprehensive water management solution that integrates potable water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment systems.

“This data and asset management project will significantly improve our operational efficiency,” said Sarah Catala, executive director at Immokalee Water & Sewer District. “From a customer service perspective, the benefits of leak detection and cost control are immense. By connecting our drinking water and wastewater data under one network, we will provide even better service and transparency to our customers.”

Immokalee will deploy more than 7,200 ally® residential water meters and the Sensus FlexNet® communication network. The network provides the communications backbone to transmit data seamlessly between the utility and its meters. During hurricane season, the network’s ability to remotely shut off meters and re-pressurize the water system will enhance emergency response.

The district also plans to use the Xylem Vue platform to securely integrate data from multiple sources – such as the communication network, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System, and weather sources – into a single platform. The real-time information will help staff respond efficiently to changes in daily work conditions and build operational resilience.

The district serves more than 24,000 residents year-round, but residential water use more than doubles as the population swells during the six months of harvest season. That is why local knowledge will be key for a successful project. Core & Main, a specialized distributor of water, wastewater, storm drainage, and fire protection products, will bring its on-the-ground expertise to support the transition.

The State of Florida appropriated funds to help with this smart utility project, and the rural District is committed to maintaining affordable rates.
