P&G’s Massive Biomass Project In Georgia
Everybody is in need of renewable and clean energy resources all across the world. Biomass, one such renewable energy source has been into existence since man started lighting fire using wood. Wood has always been the largest source of producing biomass fuel.
Biomass can be converted into other usable forms of energy such as methane gas, biodiesel and ethanol. All these gases and energy sources are produced from agricultural and human waste. For eg: methane is derived from agricultural waste, ethanol from fermenting crops such as sugar cane & corn and biodiesel from left-over food products such as animal fats and vegetable oils. Deriving Cellulosic ethanol and BTLs (biomass to liquids) are still under research process.
Biomass fuel is an essential renewable energy source and very important for the world due to the growing industrialization. With the growing need for renewable energy sources, biomass fuel industry has a bright future.
The recent partnership deed between the Georgia Public Service Commission, Georgia Power, Sterling Energy Assets, Constellation New Energy, Procter & Gamble Corporate, the Payroll Development Authority and the federal government sets an example for the need of renewable sources of energy.
The $230 million biomass project at Procter and Gamble in Georgia has received a green signal from the local officials of the state.
Bourbon, P&G Global Business Development Manager, calls the agreement “a partnership on steroids” and states that each partner is important for the project to reach its end-zone. “Take any one of these partners out of the equation, and it wouldn’t work. Using my football analogy, yes, we’re at first-and-goal, but everyone who gets that close to the goal line doesn’t score. Everyone involved in this project is doing everything possible to make it work. If it doesn’t, there will be a very good reason,” Bourbon said.
