China to Export Trumpchi Cars to U.S.
According to the NY Times , Chinese automaker GAC Motor is planning to begin selling cars in the US by the end of 2019. The company hopes to be the first Chinese car brand to take off in the US.
Trumpchis have gained a devoted following in China. The brand’s burly GS8 midsize sport utility vehicle, the first model that the company plans to sell in the United States, and its spacious new GM8 minivan have sleek lines and levels of fit and finish close to those of Japanese automakers.
The name, Trumpchis, it insists, is merely a coincidence, and dates from 2010, well before Donald Trump embarked on his presidential campaign.
GAC Motor is reported to be considering a rebrand for the US market, to something that sounds less political to American ears.
