Crimea to Feature Largest Wind Power Station in Eastern Europe

Ukraine will soon house one of the largest wind power plants in Eastern Europe. Such statement was made by the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Rustam Temirhaliyev during the wind farm project presentation at the IV International Black Sea Economic Forum. This project is jointly funded by investors from Turkey and Belgium, reported Ukrinform.

Crimean government is very interested in the success of the project and has already allocated land for the wind farm. Recently the national energy company Ukrenergo has signed an agreement stipulating the supply of the energy in the amount of 250 MW from the wind power plant operating at full capacity. The project is not only to increase the production of electricity from alternative sources in Crimea, but also to significantly change the geography of potential investors, noted Rustam Temirhaliyev.

“This project is funded by the two companies, one – from Turkey, the other – from Belgium, under the supervision of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development,” said the Crimean government official. He stressed that the project will benefit the residents of the Black Sea region, as well as create new jobs and provide income for the local budget. Reportedly, 63 percent of joint industrial investments in Crimea are focused on alternative sources of energy.

Notably, alternative energy is likely to keep positive dynamics in Ukraine, especially in Crimea, which will strengthen its position of leadership in the development of wind and solar energy in Ukraine. The amount of energy produced by alternative sources in Ukraine does not exceed one percent, although in Crimea this amount to about seven percent of the total energy produced, reports Ukrinform.
