Ex-wife rejects $975m divorce check in the US

Sue Ann Arnall, the ex-wife of Oklahoma oil baron Harold Hamm, the chief executive of Continental Resources, slammed this settlement as ‘inappropriate’.

Mr Hamm wrote Arnall a check for $974.8 million after a November divorce ruling by an Oklahoma County judge decided that figure represented Arnall’s entitlements, however she has appealed the decision.

Her lawyers stated they rejected the check because they didn’t want to risk their appeal case by accepting it.

Hamm had already paid his former wife more than $20 million during the divorce proceedings.
Arnall had taken ownership of three properties, one in Carmel, California along with two of their Oklahoma properties, as per the court’s ruling.
The two were married for 26 years, and she contends that her award of around $1 billion in cash and assets was inadequate and allowed Hamm to keep the lion’s share of a fortune her lawyers valued as high as $18 billion.

Both have now appealed the November divorce judgment.
