New Malaysian subsea service base opened by Aker Solutions
Aker Solutions has opened a new 13,680 square metre subsea lifecycle service base in the Federal Territory of Labuan in Eastern Malaysia.
The total facility features a 1,296 square metre workshop with a 75 ton overhead crane and pressure testing capabilities of 15,000 psi.
Supported by 18 staff members, the new base will aid installation and future shallow and deepwater projects within the Asia Pacific region, while also providing support services for the company’s onshore oil and gas customers as well.
Aker Solutions Asia Pacific subsea business head Dave Hutchinson said the new base offers the company the means to provide services locally and be well placed to capture potential clients.
“We have built a strong footprint in the Asia Pacific region over the past decade with the establishment of service bases in Perth in Australia, Kakinada in India, Songkhla in Thailand and now Labuan,” said Hutchinson.
“We are now well placed to meet the needs of our customers with the opening of this new base in Malaysia.”
