Prospects and Challenges for Sustained Growth in Asia

Seoul, South Korea, 7-8 September, 2017 Asia is the most dynamic region in the world: a key engine of global growth, with huge gains in per capita incomes and poverty reduction. Yet, many Asian economies face prospects of lower growth in the near or medium term future, including due to rapidly aging populations, declining birth rates, and low productivity growth. The conference will analyze the potential drivers of stagnation, their macroeconomic impacts, and implications for policymakers. The opening session will feature the participation of IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde who will deliver an opening address. The conference will include several sessions with IMF senior officials, policymakers, and analysts. The conference is open to the media.
