Saudis say Bahrain has right to seek help from Gulf Cooperation Council

Saudi Arabia on Tuesday said Bahrain had the right to seek assistance from the members of the Gulf Cooperation Council under agreements between them to restore peace and security and protect its citizens and property.

In a statement issued by the Saudi Embassy in Accra, it criticised Iran for saying that the Saudis were “playing with fire in the Gulf Region and asked the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to withdraw its forces from Bahrain”.

The Saudis said the Iranian declaration failed to state its own “interventions in the affairs of countries in the region in violation of their sovereignty and their independence…” Saudi Arabia helped put down demonstrations against Bahraini monarch last month under an agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council.
