Thirteen dead in Veracruz oil plant in Mexico

A large explosion at an oil facility in the south-east Mexican state of Veracruz has killed at least thirteen people and injured hundreds more. The blast hit a facility owned by Mexico’s state oil company, Pemex, in the port city of Coatzacoalcos.
Wednesday’s explosion at the Petroquimica Mexicana de Vinilo (PMV) facility in the southern state of Veracruz sent large plumes of dark smoke and toxic fumes across the region. The cause of the blast is unclear.
PMV is a joint venture between Mexican petrochemicals consortium Mexichem and state oil firm Pemex.
