Zambia Ready to Issue Licenses
Companies that bid in Zambia’s first licensing round will be issued their oil and gas exploration licenses soon. Zambian Mines Minister Maxwell Mwale said that the local and foreign companies awarded acreage will be issued the licenses following the passing of a new licensing fees law.
Mwale told Reuters he approved the law on new licensing fees on December 16 and the seven foreign and local companies which had already been selected would now be issued with licenses.
“We should be issuing them their licenses but we expect that actual exploration will only start next year around April after the rainy season is over,” Mwale said.
GP Petroleum,Petrodel Resources, Glint Energy, and Exile Resources were the international firms chosen along with Zambian firms Majetu, Barotse Petroleum Company, and Chat Milling to explore for oil and gas.
