Conference in Doha to highlight developments in petrochemicals

Developments in petrochemical industry to be discussed at the 4th Annual Global Petrochemicals Technology Conference to be held in Doha, Qatar.
The petrochemicals industry is growing fast owing to the versatility of petrochemicals to be converted to various industrial and commercial products. The industry is on a steady growth with more investments in research and development, increasing the production and making it more efficient. To effectively arrest the emission of gases, companies are now also focusing on environmentally sustainable production. According to an article published on the Gulf News website, Dr. Abdul Wahab Al Sadoun, Secretary-General, GPCA said, “Between 2011- 2012, the GCC petrochemicals industry not only added capacity to their facilities, but also reduced the emissions per ton of capacity in their manufacturing units. This is a positive development as it shows that the sector is growing in a way that is environmentally sustainable.” The 4th Annual Global Petrochemicals Technology Conference organized by Fleming Gulf to be held in Doha, Qatar from 6 – 8 May 2014 will gather global professionals to highlight such developments and more in the petrochemicals industry.
The conference will cover a wide range of topics pertaining to feedstocks, production, petrochemical value chain and operational optimization through various presentations and case studies. Speakers presenting at the conference will be representing organizations like Qatar Petrochemical Company, LyondellBasell, Saudi International Petrochemical Company (SIPCHEM), Wildhorse Energy, Sasol Technology and SIDI Kerir Petrochemicals Company.
One of the key highlights of the conference will be a presentation on supplementing traditional production methods to incorporate new feedstocks by Dr. Fahad Al-Sherehy, General Manager at SABIC Technology Center. His focus will be on the challenges faced in identifying the factors while choosing the best feedstock and overcoming them. A Board Member of several SABIC affiliates, he obtained his doctorate in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia in Canada. Currently Dr. Sherehy is the Head of the largest SABIC Technology Center in Riyadh which includes 350+ technical staff and research facilities for both chemical and polymer technologies.
In the interest of promoting a cleaner and greener environment a case study at the conference will also focus on the use of non-toxic biodegradable bio – organic catalysts and new technological breakthroughs. The forum will create an avenue to exchange view points concerning the future and simultaneously aim to benefit from the experience of other countries. The conference being sponsored by Unidense and Haldor Topsoe is supported by The Independent Power Producers Forum (IPPF), an international non-profit NGO of senior executives and decision-makers and related firms with energy business commitments.
