Dana Petroleum backs Fabric of the Land exhibition
An exhibition which explores the relationship between art, science and geology is to be sponsored by Aberdeen-based Dana Petroleum.
Dana is pleased to announce its support of this year’s Fabric of the Land exhibition, which is hosted by the Geology and Petroleum Geology Department of the University of Aberdeen.
Now in its fifth year, the exhibition showcases pieces from established and emerging artists that examine the relationship between art and science and, in particular, with geology.
Dana’s support has also allowed the project to benefit from a grant from Arts & Business Scotland, which will allow for an ‘artist in residence’ programme in cooperation with Aberdeen City Council. The programme will bring a visual artist and a geologist from Dana to work in partnership with St Machar Academy in Aberdeen over a period of twelve weeks. A site-specific piece of art has also been commissioned.
Fabric of the Land awards will also be presented this year- with one award of £1,500 and two of £500 to be given to the best artwork exhibited. Applications are now being invited and should be received by 15 July.
After opening its doors in Aberdeen on 24 August for three weeks, the exhibition will move, for the first time, to Edinburgh’s Dynamic Earth.
Fabric of the Land was founded in 2009 by Prof. Andrew Hurst, Chair of Production Geoscience at the University of Aberdeen, and independents Dave Flin and Gus McLeod, and has since its inception been curated and organised by Aberdeen-based art agency SMART Consultants.
Professor Andrew Hurst said: ‘Five years after its inception, Fabric of the Land is now an established event in Scotland’s art calendar and we are seeing a growing level of interest from artists all over the UK and further afield. Through Fabric of the Land we seek to bring public attention to art and science and the areas of common inspiration. My co-founders and I are flattered that Dana is investing in Fabric of the Land and thereby supporting outreach for Geology at the University of Aberdeen locally and nationally.”
Dana’s Group External Affairs Manager, Susana Braz said: “We’re extremely proud to be supporting such a forward thinking event, which not only brings together art, science, the community and the university but explores the core of our business in a different light. Our relationship with the university and the Geology and Petroleum Geology Department is one we look forward to developing through Fabric of the Land.”
Application forms to exhibit at Fabric of the Land 2013 must be received before 15 July. More information can be obtained via the Fabric of the Land website: www.fabricoftheland.com.
