IRVING, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The application deadline for the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is October 31, leaving only a few weeks for elementary school teachers to apply for the all-expenses-paid professional development opportunity. Applications and nominations can be submitted by visiting www.SendMyTeacher.com. Additionally, up to 1,500 qualified applicants not selected for the program will receive a complimentary one-year membership to the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).

Professional golfer Phil Mickelson, his wife, Amy, and ExxonMobil partnered in 2005 to form the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy, which brings together 600 teachers annually from across the country to attend one of three week-long sessions taught by faculty from NSTA and Math Solutions, an organization dedicated to improving students’ learning of mathematics. The Academy is designed to hone teaching skills, enhance curricula and help these educators discover innovative new ways to inspire students in math and science. Once selected, all expenses will be paid, including travel, lodging, and meals.

Since the launch of the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy in 2005, more than 2,600 educators have attended, impacting the lives of more than 45,000 students across the country.

Eighty percent of jobs in the next decade will require some form of math and science. Through the Academy, teachers are able to encourage and challenge their students’ math and science prowess, leading these students to future endeavors in math, science, and engineering.

Teachers selected through www.SendMyTeacher.com will attend the 2011 Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy July 17-22, 2011 at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ. Additional sessions are held in Houston and New Orleans, with teachers selected based on geographical area.

All third- through fifth-grade teachers are eligible to apply for the Academy through www.SendMyTeacher.com. Parents and students can nominate a teacher by visiting the site. Applications are due by October 31, and are reviewed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and NSTA. Selected teachers will be notified in spring 2011.

The Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy is part of ExxonMobil’s investment in math and science education in the United States.
