(Oilandgaspress) 08/08/26, UK’s new Government could water down some of Labour’s net zero targets as it seeks to ease the cost of living, the Energy Secretary has signalled. Miatta Fahnbulleh said her predecessor Ed Miliband’s pledge on the transition to clean power would need to take “affordability” into account.

In an interview with The Times, the Cabinet minister appeared to suggest the Government may relax now, Foreign Secretary Mr Miliband’s promise to almost eliminate fossil fuels from Britain’s power supplies by 2030 if it risked higher household bills. Reports have also suggested ministers are looking to water down rules on electric car sales, which could mean up to half of the new cars sold would still have petrol engines by 2030. British Gas, Octopus Energy, EDF and OVO have been issued an August bill warning that will affect their entitlement to a £150 discount.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has warned that households in England and Wales receiving means-tested benefits must be named on their energy bill by the deadline of Sunday, August 23, to be eligible for the £150 Warm Home Discount this winter. Every household where the billpayer is on means-tested benefits is in line for the rebate after the scheme was expanded last year, but eligible homes must check they are named on the bill by the August deadline to get the £150 off automatically. According to the DESNZ, around six million households are in line to get the rebate this winter, including around 250,000 automatically for the first time in Scotland. Related News

U.S. Rig Count is unchanged from last week at 588 with oil rigs up 3 to 454, gas rigs down 3 to 124 and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 10.
Canada Rig Count is down 3 from last week to 216 with oil rigs down 4 to 146, gas rigs up 2 to 65 and miscellaneous rigs down 1 to 5.
International Rig Count is up 23 from last month to 1,096 with land rigs up 14 to 847, offshore up 9 to 249.
The Worldwide Rig Count for June was 1,822, up 88 from the 1,734 counted in May 2026, and up 60 from the 1,762 counted in June 2025

The latest EIA data showed that weekly U.S. crude oil production rebounded slightly during week ending July 31. US crude oil production averaged 13.804 million bpd during the reporting period, up from 13.796 million bpd last week and up 520,000 bpd from a year ago. Related News
