TotalEnergies denounces the dissemination by Greenpeace

false and misleading information on its greenhouse gas emissions

In a report published by Greenpeace on Thursday November 3, 2022 entitled “TotalEnergies carbon footprint: the account is not there”, Greenpeace affirms in particular that the Scope 1 emissions (patrimonial part) of TotalEnergies would have been more than 160 million tonnes of CO 2 e in 2019, even though these Scope 1 emissions (portfolio share) as reported by TotalEnergies were in reality 55 million tonnes of CO 2 e that year.

The figure of 160 million tonnes of CO 2 e reported by Greenpeace for TotalEnergies’ Scope 1 emissions (share of heritage) in 2019 is fanciful and misleading. With regard to information concerning the quality and reliability of the information published by TotalEnergies on its direct greenhouse gas emissions over which it has control, the dissemination by Greenpeace of misleading information in this matter is serious.

Consequently, TotalEnergies has decided to take legal action to repair the damage caused by the dissemination of this misleading information by Greenpeace.
