Aqua statement on East Palestine, Ohio train derailment
Company shares the steps it is taking to address situation
BRYN MAWR, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The safety and well-being of our customers, employees and communities is paramount. The following is an update on the steps Aqua has taken to date to address the situation, out of an overabundance of caution:
- First, Aqua does not provide water service to the immediately affected area, and the watershed where the derailment occurred is not connected to our source water.
- We proactively ramped up our own testing for the specific known chemicals and their reagents that were released into the environment – including vinyl chloride, butyl acrylate, ethylhexyl acrylate, hydrogen chloride, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, and isobutylene.
- We are in constant contact with representatives from the Ohio EPA, US EPA and PA DEP.
Our experts are closely monitoring the situation, and we’ll continue to provide updates with important changes.
