Clean Energy Buyers Alliance CEO Transition

CEO Miranda Ballentine to Step Down

WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, the Clean Energy Buyers Alliance (Alliance), a consortium of the Clean Energy Buyers Association (CEBA) and the Clean Energy Buyers Institute (CEBI), announces that CEO Miranda Ballentine has decided to step down after six transformative years of leadership. Former Board member and current interim CEO Kevin Hagen will continue to lead the Alliance as the Board begins a global search for the organization’s next chief executive.

“In 2013, alongside about a dozen forward-thinking companies and four leading environmental NGOs, we conceived the Clean Energy Buyers Alliance,” reflected Miranda Ballentine. “From that initial meeting, we’ve grown to become arguably the world’s most influential energy customer-centric community, literally changing the landscape of clean energy deployment and policymaking. Throughout this journey, we have launched a bold 2030 strategy, cultivated a world-class leadership team and dedicated Board members, and established strong partnerships with some of the nation’s leading institutions. I know that as the organization enters its ‘scale for impact’ phase, now is the right moment to let it thrive and flourish under new leadership.”

Guided by Miranda and its Board of Directors, the Clean Energy Buyers Association is now the premier voice of energy customer companies voluntarily driving the clean energy transition and the evolution of energy markets through their influence and demand for carbon-free energy. The CEBA member community has led the broader industry in the addition of over 71 gigawatts (GW) of wind, solar, and storage capacity in the U.S. In 2022 alone, 17 GWs of voluntary clean energy deals were the equivalent of about 70% of all new capacity added in the U.S. Additionally, CEBA and CEBI have brought a new, and influential, voice to public policy discussions about the energy landscape in the U.S.

“Under Miranda’s leadership, CEBA has helped shift the energy paradigm and demonstrate that energy buyers can drive the changes needed to create a reliable, affordable, equitable and decarbonized grid for everyone” said Michael Terrell, Chair, CEBA Board of Directors. “Her leadership has been pivotal in amplifying the customer voice, pioneering transformative policy approaches, and driving forward our vision. Miranda’s legacy is a testament to the power of this customer-driven movement, and we extend her our deepest gratitude for her commitment, achievements, and impact.”

“Demonstrated through her conceptualization and stewardship of the Clean Energy Buyers Institute, Miranda has been instrumental in continually driving us toward clean energy solutions,” said Marty Pickett, Chair, CEBI Board of Directors. “Likewise, Kevin’s prior experience as a CEBA Board Member and VP of Sustainability for Iron Mountain makes him the ideal leader during this transition. I speak on behalf of the entire CEBI Board of Directors when I say we are profoundly grateful to both Miranda and Kevin.”

Miranda leaves the organization in a robust state: boasting over 400 members, a highly engaged Board of Directors, a dedicated team of 50+ staff, and a growing influence beyond its North American origins. The Alliance’s unwavering commitment remains clear: achieving a 90% carbon-free U.S. electricity system by 2030 and cultivating a global community of energy customers driving clean energy.
