London, 12 September, 2023, (Oilandgaspress) :Ember’s Global Electricity Review revealed that to meet climate targets, solar generation needs to sustain the rate of growth seen between 2015 and 2022, increasing by 25% every year throughout the rest of the decade. It has been the fastest rising source of electricity generation for the 18th year running.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a new report that finds that President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act – the largest climate investment ever – spurs major carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reductions from the U.S. electricity sector and across the economy. The report, “Electricity Sector Emissions Impacts of the Inflation Reduction Act: Assessment of projected CO2 emissions reductions from changes in electricity generation and use,” relies upon results from state-of-the-art models to assess how the Inflation Reduction Act’s investments in clean electricity and other climate solutions across sectors will reduce emissions. Since taking office, the Biden-Harris Administration has delivered on the most ambitious climate agenda in history, which is lowering energy costs for families, creating jobs across the country, and protecting lands and waters for future generations.
EPA’s analysis finds that the Inflation Reduction Act:
Lowers economy-wide CO2 emissions, which include electricity generation and use, by 35 to 43% below 2005 levels in 2030.
Spurs CO2 emissions reductions from the electric power sector of 49 to 83% below 2005 levels in 2030.
* Reduces CO2 emissions in all end-use sectors, most significantly in residential and commercial buildings followed by industry and transportation. Read More

Designed from the inside out: The interior of the new Audi Q6 e‑tron model series is tailored more closely than ever to the user’s needs and has been reimagined accordingly. For example, the three-dimensional, high-contrast design deliberately places elements in the foreground or background, creating a three-dimensional spatial architecture with aesthetics and ergonomics perfectly tuned to the occupants. The Audi Q6 e‑tron is the first model series based on the newly developed Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and the new E3 electronics architecture. Both serve as the basis for rethinking the interior’s design and range of functions. Technology, aesthetics, and sustainability are in perfect balance in the Audi Q6 e‑tron.
“All-encompassing digitalization, the central importance of sustainability and personal freedom, new definitions of time well spent and luxury – we unquestionably live in the most exciting times in the history of automotive design. So it is exactly the right moment for brave and creative minds to ask innovative questions and leave the well-trodden path to find intelligent answers elsewhere,” says Head of Audi Design Marc Lichte. “One of these questions forms the starting point of our new design process: What do our customers want to experience in and with their vehicle? Because their needs and desires uniquely shape the space, the architecture, and the functions. By understanding the interior as the center of our customers’ lives and experiences, we are rejecting the status quo and systematically designing the vehicle from the inside out. With the Q6 e‑tron, we are giving our vision concrete form in the present.”
Interior: Design unified: The interior features clear structures and emphasizes a cozy ambiance. The so-called Softwrap extends from the doors through the entire cockpit to the center console, creating a homogeneous and welcoming feeling of space. The colors and high-quality materials, some of which are made from recycled materials, are also used in the seats. Read More
Electricity at its cleanest, as wind and solar generate 12% of global power
The carbon intensity of global electricity generation fell to a record low of 436 gCO2/kWh in 2022, the cleanest-ever electricity. This was due to record growth in wind and solar, which reached a 12% share in the global electricity mix, up from 10% in 2021. Together, all clean electricity sources (renewables and nuclear) reached 39% of global electricity, a new record high. Solar generation rose by 24%, making it the fastest-growing electricity source for 18 years in a row; wind generation grew by 17%. The increase in global solar generation in 2022 could have met the annual electricity demand of South Africa, and the rise in wind generation could have powered almost all of the UK. Over sixty countries now generate more than 10% of their electricity from wind and solar. However, other sources of clean electricity dropped for the first time since 2011 due to a fall in nuclear output and fewer new nuclear and hydro plants coming online. Read More
The speed at which solar has become cheaper is demonstrated in the latest global IPCC scenarios (April 2022), which show triple the solar in 2030 as the previous IPCC release in 2019. The scenario average envisions solar rising to 23% of global electricity production by 2030.
This will require extraordinary growth rates, but the technology is modular, easily mass-produced, and improving in efficiency every day. China doubled its solar PV manufacturing capacity in 2021. Where local production doesn’t exist, solar panels must be imported, and tariffs often complicate imports and the rapid scale-up of solar power. Solar power only generates electricity during the day, so works best when paired with energy storage. The declining cost of lithium-ion batteries has seen increasingly large projects appear in areas with abundant spare land like Australia (13% of generation from solar in 2022). However solar is also growing fast in more crowded countries like the Netherlands, where rooftop installation is key (15% of generation from solar in 2022). It also works best when electricity demand is shifted towards sunny hours, for example for electricity-thirsty air conditioners.
Only 1% of global solar generation rise since 2015 was in African countries and 2% in Middle Eastern countries, despite their enormous potential. Ember has shown that where solar succeeds is not just down to sunshine, but to government policy. Read More

1PointFive, a carbon capture, utilization and sequestration company, today announced that Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has agreed to purchase 250,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits over 10 years. The agreement furthers Direct Air Capture (DAC) as a viable carbon removal solution to help organizations further their climate goals.
The CDR credits for Amazon will be enabled by STRATOS, 1PointFive’s first commercial-scale DAC plant, currently under construction in Texas. The plant is designed to capture up to 500,000 metric tons of CO2 annually when fully operational, making it the largest plant in the world, and a milestone in reaching climate relevant scale.
According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the world needs to remove roughly 1 trillion tons of CO2 from the atmosphere over the course of this century to keep global warming below the 1.5 degrees Celsius limit set by the Paris Climate Agreement.
1PointFive is progressing the development of Carbon Engineering’s Direct Air Capture technology, alongside other decarbonization solutions, at an industrial scale to help organizations achieve their net zero goals. Under the agreement with Amazon, the captured CO2 underlying the CDR credits will be stored in saline reservoirs that are not associated with oil and gas production. “Amazon’s purchase and long-term contract represent a significant commitment to direct air capture as a vital carbon removal solution,” said Michael Avery, President and General Manager of 1PointFive. “The addition of 1PointFive’s high-integrity, quantifiable carbon removal credits support Amazon’s path to achieve net zero and shows the growing role that DAC technology will play in decarbonization pathways. We are excited to collaborate with Amazon to help them achieve their sustainability goals.”
“Amazon’s primary focus is to decarbonize our global operations and reach net-zero carbon by 2040 through our transition to renewable energy, building with more sustainable materials and electrifying our delivery fleet and global logistics. We are also pursuing changes such as reducing the weight of packaging per shipment for our customers. At the same time, we also need to seek every possible avenue to reduce carbon in the atmosphere,” said Kara Hurst, vice president of worldwide sustainability at Amazon. “These investments in direct air capture complement our emissions reductions plans and we are excited to support the growth and deployment of this technology.” Read More
