According to a report by Reuters, Saudi Arabia’s Minister for Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman revealed on Sunday that the nation will begin testing the first hydrogen train in the Middle East.
“It will be on trial for next week, hopefully for the next few months. We will have the first hydrogen train in the Middle East,” the government official said during the UN MENA Climate Week in Riyadh. A hydrogen train is a specific kind of train that generates electricity and powers its propulsion system using hydrogen fuel cells. Gunmen from the Palestinian group Hamas infiltrated Israeli towns on Oct. 7, killing at least 700 Israelis and escaping with dozens of hostages in by far the deadliest day of violence in Israel since the Yom Kippur war 50 years ago.
In response, Israeli air strikes hit housing blocks, tunnels, a mosque and homes of Hamas officials in Gaza, killing more than 400 people, Reuters reported. The Hamas attack was praised by Iran and by Hezbollah, Iran’s Lebanese allies.
Hezbollah said on Sunday it had launched guided rockets and artillery onto three posts in the Shebaa Farms “in solidarity” with the Palestinian people. Read full article
ABU DHABI: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan today spoke by telephone to a number of leaders and heads of state to discuss the latest regional developments.

During the discussions, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed emphasised the urgent need for de-escalation and called on all sides to exercise restraint in order to safeguard the lives of civilians. Vår Energi ASA (OSE: VAR) has signed an agreement with Petrolia NOCO AS (Petrolia) for the disposal of the 12,2575% interest in the Brage Unit.
The Brage Field is a late life producing field located in the Central North Sea operated by OKEA (35.2%). The field started production in 1993 and comprises a production, drilling and quarters platform with oil transportation via OTS/Sture Terminal and gas offtake through Gassled.
“The transaction is part of Vår Energi’s ongoing portfolio optimisation process, in line with stated long term strategic drivers and performance metrics to reduce cost and enhance value creation”, said Stefano Pujatti, CFO in Vår Energi.
Vår Energi net production from the field was 1.0 Kboepd in the first half 2023 and had remaining net reserves 1.9 mmboe at year-end 2022.
The transaction is subject to normal regulatory approvals and is expected to close by year end 2023. The deal does not impact the Company’s previously announced production guidance. Read More
The OPEC Fund for International Development (the OPEC Fund) is taking action to support relief and recovery efforts in Libya in the aftermath of Storm Daniel, which struck the country last month. Record-breaking rainfall and floods inflicted severe damage and tragic loss of life with currently over 10,000 fatalities and tens of thousands more missing and forcibly displaced.
In response to the humanitarian emergency, the OPEC Fund has approved a US$500,000 aid grant to provide urgent and medium-term relief to the affected population by meeting essential needs such as food, clean water, shelter, as well as protection and prevention measures. The grant will be channeled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support the operations of the Libyan Red Crescent Society (LRCS) and deliver assistance on the ground. Indonesia’s Jakarta–Bandung high-speed railway, known as the WHOOSH, has officially entered service. The railway reduces travel time between Jakarta and Bandung from 3.5 hours to just 40 minutes, which will boost economic development along the route. Huawei has partnered with China Railway Signal & Communication (CRSC) and China Telecom to build a dedicated railway network for the WHOOSH. This network facilitates real-time communications, control, and dispatching of the trains, providing reliable and robust technical support for intelligent, safe, and efficient train operations.
As the first high-speed railway in Southeast Asia, the WHOOSH spans 142.3 kilometers between the capital city of Jakarta and the popular tourist destination of Bandung in Indonesia. The maximum operating speed of the trains is 350 kilometers per hour. The WHOOSH is also the first project that applies China’s high-speed railway system, including all elements of the industry value chain, outside China. Huawei-Powered Super-Fast Charging Station Operates in Chongqing
The first charging station in Chongqing equipped with super-fast chargers developed by Chinese tech giant Huawei was officially launched recently.This charging station, located in the expressway service area in Dazu District, Chongqing, features two super-fast chargers adorned with the eye-catching slogan “One Kilometer Per Second,” which Huawei had previously custom-made for this product. The company’s logo is prominently etched onto the charging piles.
“There are two super-fast chargers and eight fast chargers in the station, which will greatly release the charging pressure at our service area,” said a person in charge of Chongqing Expressway Group Co., Ltd.
The super-fast charger boasts a maximum power output of 600 kW, allowing for a rapid charge of 200 kilometers in just 5 minutes, the highest power output currently available in the market. He Bo, President of the Data Center Facility & Critical Power Product Line at Huawei Digital Power, described this as a forward-looking product, emphasizing that fast charging and high power are inevitable trends.
In the first half of this year, Huawei unveiled its next-generation fully liquid-cooled supercharging station structure. In less than six months since the announcement, Huawei has not only expanded its charging station network in eastern coastal provinces but has also made significant moves in western China, including Sichuan and Chongqing regions, drawing considerable attention. Umicore has signed four long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with ENGIE and Storm to source renewable electricity from offshore and onshore wind turbines for its sites in Belgium. These combined with earlier signed PPAs, mean that the vast majority of the electricity demand from Umicore’s Belgian sites will be covered by renewable electricity, contributing to the Group’s net-zero greenhouse gas objective by 2035.
The PPAs will serve Umicore’s site in Hoboken, one of the world’s largest precious metals recycling facilities, and Olen, housing various production activities and the Group’s Research & Development center. Umicore also has a production site in Bruges and its corporate headquarters are based in Brussels. The three long-term PPAs of up to 25 years with Storm will start in 2024 and 2025 and represent an average annual production of around 60 GWh. Read More
Huawei-backed electric vehicle (EV) brand Aito has received more than 50,000 orders for its revamped M7 model within the first 25 days since it went on sale, the company said. Richard Yu, Huawei’s Smart Car CEO, announced the milestone on his Weibo social media account on Saturday.
