London, 24 June 2024, (Oilandgaspress): – Baker Hughes Rig Count:, U.S. Rig Count is down 4 from last week to 590 with oil rigs down 4 to 488, gas rigs unchanged at 98 and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 4.
Canada Rig Count is up 6 from last week to 166, with oil rigs up 5 to 109, gas rigs up 2 to 57 and miscellaneous rigs down 1.
International Rig Count is down 25 rigs from last month to 953 with land rigs down 3 to 740, offshore rigs down 22 to 213. International Rig Count is down 12 rigs from last year’s count of 965, with land rigs up 11, offshore rigs down 23.
The Worldwide Rig Count for April was 1,726, down 67 from the 1,793 counted in March 2024, and down 82,from the 1,808 counted in April 2023.

Oil prices rose as summer demand optimism and concerns over escalating conflicts offset an industry report that said U.S. crude inventories unexpectedly rose.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released its 2024-2027 Climate Adaptation Plan, which describes agency actions to address the impacts of climate change and help build a more climate-resilient nation. The plan expands the agency’s efforts to ensure its programs, facilities, workforce and operations are increasingly resilient to climate change impacts. EPA plays a central role in the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to tackle the climate crisis and build a climate-resilient nation.
The plan builds on work initiated in the 2014 and 2021 EPA Climate Adaptation Plans to incorporate climate adaptation into the agency’s programs, policies, rules, enforcement activities and operations. EPA has already made significant strides partnering with other federal agencies, states, Tribes, territories and local governments to promote climate resilience across the nation, placing a particular focus on advancing environmental justice. Nevertheless, more needs to be done given the magnitude of this global challenge.
“We’re already seeing the devastating impacts of climate change in our daily lives, such as more frequent and intense weather events,” said Vicki Arroyo, EPA Associate Administrator for Policy. “The publication of EPA’s 2024-2027 Climate Adaptation Plan supports our continuing efforts to prepare for these impacts, build resilience, and support climate-smart solutions and investments that work for communities across the country.”
“We are strengthening EPA’s ability to adapt, and building a more climate-informed workforce,” said Kimberly Patrick, EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for Mission Support. “The plan lays out our roadmap for the next four years to reinforce our facilities, critical infrastructure, supply chains and procurement processes to withstand potential risks posed by climate change – above all, to safeguard our workforce so that they can continue to carry out our mission of protecting human health and the environment.”

The Department of Defense (DoD) announced at Fort Liberty, a first-of-its-kind partnership with Duke Energy to power five military installations in North and South Carolina with carbon-free electricity. As part of this agreement, DoD will be the exclusive purchaser of all output generated by two new solar facilities in South Carolina. Through this action, DoD is delivering on President Biden’s goal to power the federal government with 100 percent clean energy by 2030, and to do so in ways that are good for the taxpayer and the American economy.
“This is a significant step forward,” said Brendan Owens, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Energy, Installations, and Environment and DoD’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “By supporting the construction of new clean, renewable energy, we are enhancing our resilience in support of the warfighter and DoD’s mission. We are also supporting President Biden’s ambitious energy, jobs, and American manufacturing goals. DoD is playing our part to transform the power grid towards a strategically important resilient, clean energy future.”
Through this procurement, Duke Energy will provide carbon free electricity (CFE) to five major military installations in North and South Carolina, including U.S. Army Fort Liberty, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina, and Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. The contract, valued at $248 million, will provide an estimated 4.8-million-megawatt hours of CFE over a 15-year delivery period from two newly constructed off-site solar facilities in South Carolina. Expected to be operational by September 2026, these arrays will deliver power exclusively to DoD over the agreement’s 15-year term and contribute to a more reliable and resilient commercial electric grid.
“President Biden charged the federal government to use our buying power, as the nation’s largest energy consumer, to support the growth of America’s clean energy industry — and to do so in ways that are good for taxpayers and communities,” said Andrew Mayock, Federal Chief Sustainability Officer at the White House Council on Environmental Quality. “DoD is leading by example on climate change in ways that will spur new clean electricity production, create good-paying jobs, increase our resilience to climate change, and enhance our national security.” The agreement marks progress toward achieving the goals of President Biden’s Executive Order 14057 of December 8, 2021, on Catalyzing Clean Energy Industries and Jobs Through Federal Sustainability, and the accompanying Federal Sustainability Plan, which include achieving 100% CFE for Federal Government operations by 2030. As part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to build a clean transportation future, the Administration is announcing new public and private commitments to boost access to electric vehicles (EVs), save taxpayer dollars, and tackle the climate crisis. This includes leading by example on climate with the release of new Federal employee travel guidelines that direct the use of sustainable transportation for official and local travel, both domestically and internationally.
These new commitments will save taxpayers money by increasing the use of EVs and taking other cost-effective actions on clean transportation associated with business travel for the Federal workforce. In addition, the State of California, companies, and nonprofits are announcing new commitments through the Biden-Harris Administration’s EV Acceleration Challenge to expand EV fleets, increase consumer education, and grow the availability of EV charging and other clean transportation infrastructure.
These commitments further advance President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, a key pillar of Bidenomics, to spur domestic manufacturing, strengthen supply chains, boost U.S. competitiveness, and create good-paying jobs and healthier communities. Under President Biden’s leadership, EV sales have tripled and the number of publicly available charging ports has grown by nearly 70 percent since he took office. Private companies have announced more than $150 billion in investments in the EV and battery supply chain in the same time period. There are now more than 166,000 public EV chargers across the country, and the U.S. has already set a new record by selling more than 1 million EVs so far this year.
Federal Commitments to Catalyze a Clean Transportation Future
As the Nation’s largest employer and with an annual business travel purchasing power of $2.8 billion, the Federal Government is leading by example by shifting to cleaner transportation options, including American-made electric vehicles and charging infrastructure. In 2022 alone, Federal employees took more than 2.8 million flights, 2.3 million vehicle rentals, and 33,000 rail trips. These operational changes will accelerate the clean transportation transformation, increase good-paying union jobs and create healthier communities.
President Biden’s Federal Sustainability Plan aims to reach net-zero emissions from overall Federal operations by 2050, including a 65 percent emissions reduction by 2030. Through new Federal employee travel guidelines issued today, the Biden-Harris Administration is advancing this goal by directing Federal agencies to prioritize the use of sustainable transportation for official and local travel, both domestically and internationally, including by:
Prioritizing electric vehicle use when traveling: Federal employees will rent an EV on official travel when the cost of the EV is less than or equal to the most affordable comparable vehicle available. Employees will also opt for cost-competitive EV options, where available, when using taxis and ride share platforms. This will save taxpayer money and reduce pollution that jeopardizes people’s health and fuels the climate crisis. Expanding rail travel: Federal employees will use rail for trips less than 250 miles when cost-effective and available, instead of taking an airplane or vehicle. Increasing public transit use: Federal employees will use public transit (e.g., subway, bus, light rail) when conducting local travel or upon arrival at the official travel location. Read More
The third edition of Bentley Motors’ Extraordinary Women initiative has concluded with students from universities in the UK and Qatar spending a week at the luxury car brand’s headquarters in Crewe, England. As part of a specially designed schedule they met with Bentley experts and executives, went behind the scenes of its manufacturing operations and tackled individual tasks.
Designed to encourage and develop the next generation of young female leaders, the 2024 edition of the Extraordinary Women programme has seen the students receive one-on-one mentorship over the past three months from a selection of inspirational Pioneers from the fields of technology, engineering, design and business.
The students, who passed through a structured selection process focused around these four specific fields, came from a variety of participating universities: including The University of Doha for Science in Technology in Qatar, and the Universities of Bath, Loughborough and Manchester Metropolitan in the UK.

“This experience has been nothing short of life-changing. Through the programme, I have gained invaluable knowledge and skills that will significantly impact my personal and professional growth. The Pioneers were equally carefully selected. In the UK, entrepreneur Sara Davies MBE, founder and owner of Crafter’s Companion and TV personality from BBC One show Dragons’ Den, provided business mentorship, with Cecilia Harvey, founder of Tech Woman Today, offering the same in the field of technology.
Titi Oliyide CEng MIET, Senior Process Safety Engineer and winner of the 2023 Young Woman Engineer of the Year, mentored the engineering student, and renowned interior designer and Founder of Studioilse, Ilse Crawford provided design support.
The four Qatari Pioneers included Qatar’s UNESCO art ambassador, Muna Al-Bader, in the field of design. Dr Noora Fetais Al Marri, honoured by the Arab Women of the Year 2024 awards for her contributions to cyber security education and founding President of the Arab Association for Cyber Security, offered technology mentorship.
Covering the field of engineering was Dr. Hanan Farhat, founder of the Qatar Association for Women Engineers, and Dr. Buthaina Al Ansari in the field of business, who is a senior advisor at the organisation that established Tamkeen Training and Consulting Solutions. Read More

Frank Stippler has set a new lap record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife with a preproduction model of the upcoming RS 3 product upgrade*. The Audi Sport racing and development driver clocked an impressive time of 7:33.123 minutes, beating the current fastest lap time in this class by more than five seconds. The record was made possible by the optimized cornering behavior, enabling the new RS 3* to deploy its agility even earlier and in a more controlled manner, as Frank Stippler explained: “That was the key to our success. The new RS 3* turns in more willingly at corner entry thanks to fine-tuning – including brake torque vectoring – which allows the vehicle to be positioned earlier and better for corner exit from the apex, at the latest. The result is a lower steering angle from apex to corner exit, which leads to less friction and earlier acceleration, allowing you to carry more momentum and speed onto each subsequent straight.”
