Hunt Military Communities Launches Installation of Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Hanscom Family Housing
Partners with Hunt Companies’ Affiliate City Light & Power to Advance Renewable Energy Goals
EL PASO, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#clp–Hunt Military Communities (HMC), the nation’s leading provider of housing for military families, is proud to announce the advancement of its Phase II Solar and Battery Project at Hanscom Air Force Base. This initiative underscores Hunt’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions, while supporting the broader goals of energy cost stabilization and environmental stewardship. This community includes more than 731 homes serving more than 2,500 military residents. The 2.2 megawatt PV system will enable the community to draw more than 30% of its total electricity supply from clean, renewable energy. With this update, HMC has added more than 20 MW of solar across its housing communities nationwide. The project is slated to be completed by early 2025.
The project involves the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on the rooftops of homes and garages within the Hanscom Family Housing community, along with a centralized Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). This strategic investment, supported by state incentives from the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources, aims to significantly reduce the community’s carbon footprint and contribute to the state’s ambitious renewable energy targets.
Brian Stann, President and CEO of Hunt Military Communities, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “At Hunt Military Communities, we are dedicated to providing innovative solutions that enhance the quality of life for our residents and provide greater value for our military partners. The Hanscom Solar Project is a testament to our commitment to sustainable practices and long-term energy cost stability for our communities which will provide increased funds for long-term sustainment projects.”
City Light & Power (CLP), an affiliate of HMC’s parent company, Hunt Companies, has been selected as the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor for this project. CLP’s extensive experience in renewable energy projects ensures the successful delivery and operation of this vital initiative. Hunt performed rigorous project development and provider solicitation and CLP, with its decades of experience supporting government customers, is the best-fit solar operator for the project.
Bill Simmons, President, City Light & Power, added, “We’re excited to partner with Hunt Military Communities to deliver sustainable, cutting-edge energy solutions for Hanscom Family Housing. The installation of solar photovoltaic systems and battery energy storage demonstrates our commitment to reducing carbon footprints while providing reliable and efficient power. Together, we are setting a benchmark for environmental responsibility and energy efficiency within military housing.”
The Hanscom Solar Project, with an expected yield of approximately 2,500 MWh in its first year, represents a substantial step toward reducing reliance on conventional energy sources. By stabilizing electricity costs for the next 25 years, this initiative is projected to save the community millions over the lifetime of the power purchase agreement.
Through this project, Hunt Military Communities and City Light & Power are demonstrating the power of strategic partnerships in driving forward the transition to renewable energy. The project not only benefits the military families residing at Hanscom but also aligns with national and state priorities for energy independence and environmental protection.
