More than two million barrels of Nigerian oil are expected to arrive in India between September and October 2025, according to Reuters. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) recently bought one million barrels of Agbami crude for September delivery in a tender awarded to global trader Trafigura, while Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) secured additional Nigerian cargoes through spot deals. The purchases come alongside other acquisitions—one million barrels of Angola’s Girassol, one million barrels of US Mars, and three million barrels of Abu Dhabi Murban—reflecting India’s rapid diversification since halting Russian shipments in late July under pressure from Washington. Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network, and our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world. Our initial satellite constellation will include more than 3,200 spacecraft, which we began deploying in April 2025 when we sent our first 27 satellites into space. That mission was the first of more than 80 to deploy our constellation. SpaceX will deploy the satellites at an altitude of 289 miles (465 kilometers) above Earth, at which point the Project Kuiper team will take over command of the mission. After we’ve made contact with the satellites and completed activation and health checks, we will gradually raise the satellites to their assigned altitude of 392 miles (630 km). Read More
Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge in 2019 and made a commitment to achieve net-zero carbon by 2040. As part of that Pledge, Amazon also announced a partnership with Rivian to bring 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030 and got to work on designing a new state-of-the-art delivery vehicle. In three short years, a simple sketch turned into the custom electric delivery vehicles on the road today. With its commitment to have at least 100,000 electric delivery vehicles on the road by 2030, Amazon will eliminate millions of metric tons of carbon per year. Amazon began rolling out its electric delivery vans in the summer of 2022 and now has more than 25,000 across the U.S.
Amazon has also brought the custom vans to Europe and announced more than 300 will hit the road in Germany, joining a fleet of thousands of electric vans already in operation in Europe. Amazon has installed over 32,000 chargers at more than 180 delivery stations across the U.S.. Amazon has put more than 15 models of electric vehicles on the road, including delivery vehicles, e-cargo bikes, and e-rickshaws, to test and learn across the U.S., the European Union, and India. Amazon is also investing in solutions like green hydrogen and other alternative fuel methods, such as ultra-low carbon electrofuels, for our delivery and operations. Read More
Mission Zero Technologies was selected as part of the ‘Discover Track’, which supports deep-tech startups developing breakthrough technologies in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), carbon removal, and fuel efficiency. Through tailored sessions delivered by IAG and external experts over a six-month period, the accelerator aims to help the most promising startups scale and commercialise innovative aviation solutions. Direct air capture is emerging as a catalytic technology in the production of sustainable aviation fuel. By recovering CO₂ directly from the atmosphere, DAC provides a circular and scalable fossil-free carbon feedstock that can be combined with renewable hydrogen to produce SAF via power-to-liquids pathways. This novel approach offers a powerful way to drastically reduce the carbon intensity of aviation fuels and help meet Net Zero targets.
Our participation in the IAGi Accelerator further builds on the progress we have already made towards unlocking commercial-scale sustainable CO₂ feedstocks for SAF production. In 2023, we delivered the UK’s first DAC system, dedicated to pioneering SAF in partnership with the University of Sheffield’s Energy Institute. In July 2025, we were awarded £6M in UK Government funding as part of the Carbon Neutral Fuels (CNF) coalition to enable the front-end engineering design (FEED) study for a commercial-scale SAF plant in Cumbria. This includes the FEED design for a Mission Zero DAC system capable of recovering 10,000 tonnes of atmospheric CO₂ each year. Read More
The UK government plans to legislate the integration of removals credits by 2028 with their inclusion in the UK ETS in 2029. At first, only UK-based projects can generate removal credits, with those removals requiring verification before the credits themselves are issued. Only removals that can demonstrate that carbon will be locked away for a minimum of 200 years will be accepted. Removals will also have to comply with a UK GGR Standard that is currently under development.
Looking at the bigger picture, the overall cap on emissions will remain the same, with companies making a decision on whether they purchase either an emissions allowance, or a removal allowance. However, due to the difference in comparative maturity of emissions credits and removals credits as financial products, the government has indicated that it is considering pricing the two credits differently. This policy move is important, because until now, carbon removal technology developers could only sell through a voluntary market. With this change, the UK government is asserting that in 2029 it will incorporate removals into the UK’s compliance market.
In doing so, it will allow carbon removal companies to move from an ad hoc, opaque system to a regulated, transparent market — marking a huge step forward by offering project developers a direct route to market, helping to unlock financing for major UK-based projects, and reducing barriers to entry for smaller operators.
Having recently turned on our second direct air capture plant in the UK, this comes as particularly welcome news here at Mission Zero. Engineered removal pathways like DAC represent some of the most high-quality, measurable solutions for durably locking carbon out of the atmosphere for thousands of years. This move signals the UK government’s continued support to help early-stage climate solutions scale their impact. Ultimately, this move validates the importance of scaling high-impact CDR solutions like DAC, sending a signal to buyers that not only is this technology needed to reach Net Zero, but that it has reached a level of readiness to be used as a route to compliance within the UK. Trump’s trade war has pushed relations with many countries to their worst point in decades. Acting more like a mob boss than a dealmaker, Trump has told various nations that if they promise to cough up several hundred billion dollars in investment in the US, he’ll make nice and lower their tariff rate. Or else. One economist called this “a global shakedown”. Many officials in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Canada are no doubt seething. Trump seems to treat Washington’s trading partners as punching bags—that’s not a winning strategy for the US or the world.
Another motivation behind Trump’s tariffs is his desire to erase the huge US trade deficit. That deficit has certainly been a problem, helping lead to myriad factory closings and job losses across blue-collar America. But even with that its record trade deficits, the US has, by many measures, the world’s richest, most successful economy. Trump boasts that his tariffs are already bringing back some manufacturing—and there’s no denying that there are several examples, Last Wednesday, Apple vowed to invest $100bn in advanced manufacturing in the US, and GM plans to increase production of its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks in Indiana while trimming output in Canada. Nonetheless, there’s a huge question mark as to whether Trump’s tariffs will inspire a major manufacturing rebound in the US. Many experts say the 15% tariffs imposed on the EU, Japan and other places are too low to persuade companies to move production to the US. For corporations to build a new $500m factory in the US, they will want solid assurances of what economic conditions will be four and five years from now. But does anyone actually think that the mercurial Mr Trump won’t issue new tariff threats or order tariff changes within four or five weeks? Trump further proclaims that his tariffs are wondrous because, he says, they will generate trillions of dollars in revenue for the US Treasury. But those revenues will come out of the hides of tens of millions of American consumers who will pay Trump’s taxes on imports.
The Yale Budget Lab estimates that the price increases caused by Trump’s tariffs will cost the typical US household $2,400 in 2025. As a result of the tariffs, the budget lab says, apparel prices will soar 37% and shoe prices 39%. What Trump boasts as a win is a loss for millions of typical Americans. Read More .
Lightning repeatedly struck the roof rack area of a BYD Song Plus EV in a dramatic roadside incident, sending brilliant arcs of electricity into the atmosphere. The event, caught on nearby dashcams, unfolded at the Tieshan service area in Beihai, located in the Chinese autonomous region of Guangxi. While the SUV was hit by lightening three times in quick succession, only two strike points were found on the roof, with the rest of the exterior remaining unscathed. The driver also stayed safe inside the vehicle and emerged without any injuries. Following the incident, dealership technicians told Chinese media that a full inspection found no damage to the vehicle’s power battery pack, electric control unit, or motor—the core components of its powertrain. According to experts quoted in local media reports, the interior of a sealed metal-bodied car provides a surprisingly safe refuge during lightning strikes, thanks to the ‘Faraday cage‘ effect.
This phenomenon occurs when the vehicle’s metal shell channels the electric current around the outside of the cabin and safely into the ground, rather than through its occupants. Read More
More than £4bn was wiped off the value of the world’s biggest offshore wind farm developer after Donald Trump declared war on renewable energy projects. Shares in Ørsted plunged by an unprecedented 29pc in early trading to a record low after it revealed it would seek to raise 60bn Danish kroner (£7bn) from a new stock offering as it battles a downturn in the industry. It comes after Mr Trump briefly halted work on a separate wind farm off the coast of New York in April and last month branded the renewable energy source a “con job” during a visit to Scotland.
He said at his Turnberry golf course that turbines spoiled the landscape and sucked in hefty subsidies, adding: “The whole thing is a con job. It’s very expensive.” The company, which is majority owned by the Danish state, will hold an extraordinary general meeting on Sept 5 to approve the plans. Read More
