16 Dec Ford to Reinvest in Trucks, Hybrids, Cheap EVs and Battery Storage
Sharpens EV and hybrid strategy, cuts larger EV plans
(Oilandgaspress) Ford is refocusing its Ford+ strategy by redeploying capital toward higher-return opportunities, including expanding trucks, vans and launching a new battery energy storage business. The automaker will drop plans for select larger electric vehicles, citing weaker demand, high costs and regulatory changes.

The company will prioritize hybrids and extended-range electric options, while concentrating pure EV development on its new low-cost, flexible Universal EV Platform for smaller, affordable models. The first vehicle on this platform—a midsize electric pickup—will be built in Louisville from 2027.
Ford expects around $19.5 billion in special charges through 2027, with $5.5 billion in cash impacts, mainly in 2026–27.
