18 Dec US Army’s first 100% electric train
The train can also act as a mobile energy platform during grid emergencies.
(Oilandgaspress) The U.S. Army has converted a diesel locomotive into a fully electric ATLAS locomotive using lithium-ion battery technology, cutting fuel use, maintenance costs and carbon emissions. The electric train will support daily rail yard operations at Fort Hood, moving heavy military equipment. It can run for up to 12 hours, recharge in around 2.5 hours, and uses regenerative braking. The project is part of a wider Army initiative with Dominion Energy to modernise and decarbonise base infrastructure.
