China launches world’s largest car carrier vessel for up to 10,800 cars

(Oilandgaspress) -] The vessel is a liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel car carrier. It was developed by Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (GSI), a state-owned shipbuilder and a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). Built for South Korea’s flagship shipping operator HMM, which operates about 90 vessels with a total capacity of roughly 950,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) the ship represents a new class of ultra-high-capacity car carriers.

The delivery reflects the industry’s move toward cleaner maritime propulsion. The company confirmed on Wednesday, that the vessel had left the dock.
