Testarossa is right up there in the Ferrari firmament, a red-headed comet flaming through the decades, from the first 500 TR of 1956 to the unforgettable 1984 Testarossa. Now the 849 Testarossa we’re testing in Barcelona is reviving the name in style.

Compared with its Ferrari SF90 Stradale predecessor, power rises 50 cv to a remarkable 1,050 cv, with the potent twin-turbo V8 engine completely re-engineered to deliver 830 cv alone. Combined with 220 cv from the single rear electric motor and two front motors, and significant weight savings in many areas, the 849 Testarossa achieves the best weight-to-power ratio ever for a series-production Ferrari, at 1.5 kilos/cv.

The 849 Testarossa’s scintillating soundtrack has been enhanced, too, with a particular richness and purity evident in the low to mid-engine rev ranges, whilst a new gear shift strategy — inherited from the SF90 XX Stradale — generates an even more exciting sound during upshifts.

Four driving modes can be selected via the eManettino — eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify — paving the way for everything from the maximum performance we’re experiencing here on track to a pure electric range of up to 25 km. Since the hybrid system delivers on-demand all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, the 849 Testarossa is capable of extraordinary handling in all conditions. Related News
