All-electric Audi RS 3 Sedan wins 2023 Best Performance Car award
Audi RS 3 Sedan has been named the Best Performance Car for 2023 by the Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) jury. The RS 3 was one of six category winners, with each vehicle judged on excellence in its segment based on the criteria of safety, driving, comfort, technology, design, efficiency, impact on the environment and value for money. This is the second-consecutive year that Audi has won the performance car category, with the all-electric e-tron GT receiving the honor in 2022.
WWCOTY is an organization comprised exclusively of women motor journalists from 45 countries across five continents that has been presenting car awards since 2011. According to WWCOTY, the jurors’ work has been marked by an industry evolution towards more efficient and sustainable models, and each award winner was subjected to demanding driving tests, detailed analysis and careful comparative assessments. WWCOTY described the Audi RS 3 in the award announcement as, “A very sporty model that incorporates all the technology that Audi has developed in circuit racing.”
The second generation of the RS 3 Sedan still remains as the attainable entry point to the Audi Sport portfolio. The RS 3’s turbocharged 2.5-liter TFSI® five-cylinder engine (a nine-time “International Engine of the Year Award” winner since 2010), has deep historical roots in Audi’s DNA, having achieved victories across different motorsport series that include Group B rally, IMSA GTO and Nürburgring 24-hour race. With 401 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque, it remains one of the brand’s more powerful engines, bringing the RS 3 from 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, and helping set a lap record for compact cars on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a time of 7 minutes 40.748 seconds.
The RS 3 has reached new heights in dynamic handling thanks to the first application of Audi’s RS Torque Splitter. Further enhancing the performance of Audi’s legendary quattro® all-wheel-drive system, it can actively distribute 100 percent of the available torque sent rearward to the outside wheel, significantly reducing the tendency to understeer or creating oversteer when drifting. A maximum of 50% of the total torque can be sent to the rear axle in any drive mode and the front axle always remains engaged.
The WWCOTY Best Performance winning RS 3 will compete against the five other category winners in the final round of judging to determine the WWCOTY Women’s World Car of the Year, which will be announced on International Women’s Day, March 8.
