American Water Announces State Leadership Changes in Kentucky and West Virginia

CAMDEN, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., announced that Robert Burton, currently president of West Virginia American Water, has been named president of Kentucky American Water. Burton replaces Kathryn Nash, who is retiring from the company on March 1, 2025. Additionally, Scott Wyman will join American Water as president of West Virginia American Water, effective Jan. 27, 2025.

Burton, a native of Kentucky, has more than 27 years of utility management experience. He currently serves as president of West Virginia American Water, which provides quality water and wastewater services to approximately 600,000 people in more than 365 West Virginia communities.

Prior to his role in West Virginia, Burton was senior director of operations for Pennsylvania American Water. He began his career with American Water in the Military Services Group, where he oversaw the operations of the group’s 11 military bases and more than 200 employees. He also spent four years managing the company’s Fort Belvoir, Va., and Fort Meade, Md., water and wastewater systems.

Wyman has more than 30 years of experience within the utility sector. Most recently, he served as president of FirstEnergy’s Pennsylvania operations, overseeing electric utility operations for subsidiaries Penelec, West Penn Power, Metropolitan Edison, and Penn Power. Prior to that role, Wyman provided strategic leadership as regional president of Penelec. Throughout his distinguished career at FirstEnergy, he has held various director positions, ranging from operations support and services to asset management.

Wyman earned a Master of Business Administration from Gannon University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Geneva College. He is also a certified professional engineer in Pennsylvania and was appointed to multiple board roles across the state.
