Comporium and York Electric Complete Second Phase of Buildout

1Gbps Internet Now Available to over 3,800 Customers in Western York County and parts of Cherokee County

ROCK HILL, S.C. & YORK, S.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The partnership between Comporium and YEC has proven successful, providing high-speed Internet to more than 3,800 members of the co-op for the first time. “We are pleased to have nearly 1,300 members signed up and connected to the world through Comporium’s services,” says YEC’s President and CEO Paul Basha. “This partnership has allowed the co-op to change lives, improving accessibility and service like we did in this area with electricity 82 years ago.”

“In just under 2 years, we’ve made great strides,” says Matthew Dosch, Comporium’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. “We are making a difference with this partnership and lives are improving each day as more folks sign up for service, making things like work and school easier to do at home.”

In July of 2021, Comporium and YEC announced their partnership to build a fiber optic network in western York and parts of Cherokee counties. This network, under construction now, offers internet speeds up to 1Gbps where DSL or satellite service were once the only choice. Phase 3 is underway for the partnership and will complete the promised fiber Internet services for 5,000 unserved cooperative members. This project is evidence of both companies’ continued commitment to investing in the community and improving the lives of its residents.

Potential new customers will receive communications from Comporium and YEC regarding this new service opportunity and how to sign up as it becomes available in their area.

Comporium also participates in the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program. This federal program allows income-qualified homes on the newly expanded network to get a $30 discount off regular monthly rates for internet.
