Cordoba Corporation’s Founder & CEO George L. Pla Honored with Latino Spirit Award from the Latino Legislative Caucus
SACRAMENTO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Cordoba Corporation’s Founder & CEO George L. Pla was honored for Achievement in Business & Philanthropy at the Latino Spirit Awards, hosted by the California Latino Legislative Caucus on Monday, May 2, 2022, at the State Capitol in Sacramento. The Latino Spirit Awards were created by the Latino Legislative Caucus in 2002 to highlight positive role models within our diverse Latino community.
Every year, the Latino Caucus honors Latinos in a variety of categories that range from journalism to public service and community empowerment. Many of the honorees are pioneers in their respective fields and have overcome tremendous obstacles, rising to become role models and community leaders.
George and nine other Latino Spirit Award honorees attended a series of special events on May 2nd, including the Latino Spirit Awards Brunch at which honorees were presented with resolutions from Latino Legislative Caucus Chair Senator María Elena Durazo and Vice Chair Assembly Member Robert Rivas. Each honoree had the opportunity to provide a brief acceptance speech, followed by a keynote address by actor, director, writer, musician, art collector, and humanitarian Cheech Marin.
Later, honorees were introduced and recognized on the Assembly Floor and in the Senate Gallery for their significant contributions. Prior to the introductions of the Latino Spirit Award honorees, the Assembly passed House Resolution 104 (Santiago) and Senate Resolution 79 (Durazo), both of which celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the historic day when the Mexican people defeated the French army at the Batalla de Puebla, and honor distinguished Latinos for their contributions and dedication to the economy and cultural life of California and the United States.
“It was a humbling and memorable experience to join so many dedicated and distinguished Latino leaders in being honored by the Legislature with the Latino Spirit Award,” stated George L. Pla. “I am truly grateful to the Latino Legislative Caucus for this award and I appreciate the support of my family, friends, colleagues and fellow Cordoba team members. I am honored and privileged to be able to use my professional success to give back and make a difference to the community.”
