Daanaa Announces Real-time Programmable, Ultra-high Voltage Conversion Ratio Power Converter

Daanaa’s Power Transaction Unit is a compact power converter solution ideal for applications with dynamic power or ultra-high voltage conversion ratio requirements, such as those used in electrified vehicles and solar energy systems.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#Automotive–Daanaa Resolution, Inc., an innovator in power system architecture and design, announces its Power Transaction Unit (PTU), a novel approach to ultra-high voltage conversion ratio power converters that is real-time programmable. In a compact module, the PTU provides greater than 95% power conversion efficiency across a one-decade operating range, with a voltage conversion ratio exceeding 110x. The PTU is bidirectional, multimodal (AC/DC), with dynamically adjustable output amplitude and phase. It enables Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in automotive, solar energy, high-performance computing, and other industries to develop highly energy-efficient systems with reduced engineering and operational overhead.

The rising demand for electricity, driven by homes, businesses, AI, and vehicle electrification, makes efficient energy conversion critical. However, renewable energy sources, such as solar cells and batteries, generate low-voltage DC outputs (often less than 4V), while most applications require stable high-voltage AC (240V) or DC (12V–800V). Traditional power conversion techniques rely on multi-stage architectures and serialized energy sources, leading to inefficiencies, compounding losses, cascading failures, and increased system complexity.

Unlike traditional multi-stage systems, Daanaa’s PTU enables parallel connections for greater resilience while minimizing losses. Its real-time programmability adapts to changing conditions like sunlight and environmental conditions, battery state of charge (SOC), battery state of health (SOH), ensuring stable, optimized power transfer. By integrating multiple power functions into a compact, single-step module, Daanaa improves efficiency, simplifies system design and reduces engineering, operational, and maintenance costs.

Key Benefits

  • Efficiency:
The PTU delivers high power conversion efficiency with real-time programmable outputs to maximize subsystem performance. In solar applications, built-in maximum power point tracking (MPPT) optimizes power generation, even under rapidly changing conditions like fluctuating sunlight.
  • Adaptability:
The PTU senses and maintains consistent output voltage levels independent of SOC or SOH, and supports various battery types (e.g., different sizes and chemistries). Multiple PTUs can be connected in parallel and controlled independently in real time, enabling dynamic load balancing in response to changing conditions.
  • Resiliency:
Each PTU includes built-in monitoring and diagnostics, enabling fine-grained problem isolation and minimizing downtime. PTUs can be connected in parallel to build redundancy into the system.
  • Engineering & Design Efficiency:
By eliminating multiple conversion stages, PTUs reduce space, components, and costs while simplifying engineering. They also provide design flexibility and ensure modularity and scalability.
  • Operational Efficiency:
The simplified architecture streamlines inventory management and optimizes the supply chain, enabling efficient and cost-effective operations.

“We’re receiving growing interest from unconventional solar and energy storage applications struggling with efficiency,” said Udi Daon, Daanaa’s CEO. “We’re offering a hands-on experience with our development system for Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), Vehicle-Integrated Photovoltaics (VIPV), Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and more.”

PTU Development System Available for Evaluation

Customers can evaluate the PTU’s capabilities using Daanaa’s development system, which connects to photovoltaic modules and batteries to demonstrate the technology’s potential in solar and energy storage applications.

BIPV and VIPV face challenges in optimizing solar energy generation due to irregular surfaces, dynamic shading, and complex power electronics. The PTU’s short-cell substring approach adapts to irregular surfaces, while per-substring DC optimization and ultra-fast MPPT maximize energy harvest even in dynamic shade conditions. Real-time configuration enables dynamic control of the output to a load.

The PTU also enhances battery performance. In electrified vehicles, it increases range by 10%, boosts motor power by over 40% and reduces charge time by over 50% without modifying battery cell count.

The development system includes an enclosed module featuring input and output connectors for easy integration with sources, loads, and measurement devices. It supports low-voltage DC input of 3V–6.7V and outputs either 380V-800V DC or 240VAC based on configurable settings.
