Ed Arnold to Lead Asset Development Consulting Practice for EcoEngineers
Industry Veteran to Focus on Fuels and Chemicals Process Improvements, Techno-Economic Analyses, and Commercialization of New Technology
DES MOINES, Iowa–(BUSINESS WIRE)–EcoEngineers, a clean energy consulting, auditing, and advisory firm, has announced the appointment of Ed Arnold as director of asset development within its consulting practice.
Mr. Arnold brings more than 25 years of experience in the renewable fuels, biochemicals, and oil and gas industries. Over his career, Mr. Arnold has performed independent engineering evaluations and investment due diligence on more than 50 renewable fuels, biochemicals, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects worldwide. He has extensive experience conducting project feasibility studies relevant to biofuels and biochemicals production, low-carbon intensity (CI) petroleum refining, renewable natural gas (RNG), used motor oil processing, green hydrogen, low-sulfur marine fuel production, e-fuels, and CCUS projects.
“With extensive, hands-on experience in renewable energy, fuels, biochemicals, and novel process technology evaluation, Ed brings significant experience on what it takes to commercialize new technology,” said EcoEngineers CEO Shashi Menon. “At Eco, we sit at the intersection of climate policies, emerging technologies, and carbon markets. Ed brings a level of rigor in technology evaluation and pathways to commercialization. This is a key factor in any decarbonization plan and something overlooked in most plans.”
Mr. Arnold has helped entrepreneurs and corporations with business strategy and manufacturing process development. Past clients include energy and chemicals majors, private equity firms, banks, sovereign wealth funds, private investors, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and process development entrepreneurs.
“EcoEngineers is such a recognized name in our industry,” Arnold said. “In the past, I worked alongside their teams on multiple projects, and I am honored to be joining the Eco team and helping lead asset management for our clients.”
Mr. Arnold holds multiple U.S. patents for novel process technologies, process designs, and chemical products. He previously held leadership roles at Honeywell UOP, as well as at Jacobs Consultancy and Argus Consulting, before becoming an independent contractor.
Mr. Arnold holds a Master of Science degree in microbiology from the Illinois Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He earned undergraduate degrees in chemical engineering and biochemistry at the University of California, Davis.
As an industry thought leader, Mr. Arnold recently authored a primer on the top 10 reasons why renewable fuel and biochemical projects stumble, such as underestimating capital and operating costs, postponing early-stage vetting of CI, addressing gaps between feedstock supply and offtake agreements, and addressing material balance issues, among others. His checklist with suggested solutions and more can be viewed here.
