London, 2 October, 2023, (Oilandgaspress): – Global oil demand will reach record levels this year, with demand expected to continue to grow each year and peak in 2035, according to Bloomberg Intelligence’s (BI) latest oil sector survey of energy-related investors. Almost half (46%) of respondents think global demand will be between 101 and 102 million barrels a day on average in 2023, with a similar number (44%) believing it will be above 102 million. This compares to the 99.9 million barrels a day seen in 2022, as cited by the International Energy Agency. In comparison to BI’s 2022 survey, there has been a major shift in opinion related to the pace of green and energy-transition spending by European energy majors. 46% of respondents now believe ‘green’ capex will never reach 50% or more of the overall annual capital outlay; this compares with 15% of respondents previously. This finding, notes BI, reflects recent strategic adjustments made by Shell and BP this year moderating their energy transition pace, with higher oil and gas investment this decade, driving a flattening of hydrocarbon production levels to 2030 vs. a projected decline previously.

All of the respondents of BI’s latest survey expect global renewable power to exceed coal-fired generation some time beyond 2030, reflecting divergent views over the pace of transition after coal-fired output reached record highs in 2022.

HYVIA, a pioneer ecosystem for hydrogen mobility in Europe: today for tomorrow
From 2 to 12 October 2023, HYVIA will bring together a hundred players committed to hydrogen mobility to take stock of its H2 ecosystem developed for more than 2 years: a bold path for pioneers in a hydrogen sector that is still in its development stage.
A pioneer in hydrogen mobility since its creation in 2021, HYVIA relies on its two founding groups: Renault Group, at the forefront of automotive mobility that is reinventing itself, and Plug, an expert in hydrogen solutions for more than 20 years.
With these two areas of expertise, HYVIA has been able to deploy a complete and unique H2 ecosystem: hydrogen-powered light commercial vehicles, refueling, maintenance and financing solutions for professionals as well as the production of fuel cells or low-carbon hydrogen by electrolysis.
Integrated into the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) “Hy2Tech”, HYVIA relies on a team of 130 pioneers who have initiated a commercial, after-sales, engineering, and industrial dynamic, with solid partners and a network with all the players in the H2 sector, including Hydrogen Europe and France Hydrogen.
Pioneering customers have already embarked with HYVIA on the path of H2 mobility, such as: Orange, Engie, Equans, Chronopost or Alpine in France / GP Groot, Warmtebouw, Pot Verhuizingen in the Netherlands / Airbus, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG, Packeta, Maximator Hydrogen GmbH in Germany.
HYVIA is announcing a new partnership with Atawey, a leading player in hydrogen refuelling stations, to create a new offering: HYWELL™. HYVIA is also strengthening its partnership with HYSETCO. To ensure the after-sales of its hydrogen-powered vehicles, pioneering dealers are already supporting the H2 mobility offered by HYVIA: Renault Rungis, Renault Lyon Sud in France / Stam Amersfoort, Terwolde Groningen, Bochane Arnhem and Van Mossel Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. To meet our technological challenges, HYVIA also relies on industrial partners such as FORVIA, Bosch, Garrett Motion, AVL and Plastic Omnium. Read full article

Four companies have submitted applications with proposed acreage for storing CO2 in the North Sea.

The green circles in the map show the relevant areas. This publication is in accordance with Proposition No. 97 S to the Storting (2022-2023), which e.g. states the following: “Moving forward, the Ministry will make suitable announcements when applications are received for proposed acreage for CO2 storage. This will facilitate an improved process surrounding potential announcements of areas being considered by various stakeholders.” Read full article

The oil market remains well supported with the ICE Brent November contract expiring on Friday at US$95.31/bbl. For the oil market this week, there will be plenty of attention paid to the OPEC+ Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee (JMMC) meeting on Wednesday. The market will be eager to see if there are any signs of a change in the group’s output policy, given the recent strength in the market. We do not believe that the group will change its output policy. However, what is possible (and a JMMC meeting is not needed for this), is Saudi Arabia starting to ease its additional voluntary supply cut of 1MMbbls/d. The Saudis have said that there is still concern over Chinese demand. However, PMI data out over the weekend will provide some confidence with China’s manufacturing PMI returning to expansion territory in September for the first time since March, whilst the non-manufacturing PMI remained in expansion territory over the month. Using the principles of quantum mechanics, a team of researchers from the Quantum Systems Unit, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), have managed the seemingly impossible: making a working quantum-sized engine. Working in collaboration with scientists from the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau and the University of Stuttgart, the new engine works via the special rules that particles obey in the quantum realm. When temperatures are extremely low and quantum effects come into play, bosons have a lower energy state than fermions. This energy difference, the researchers explain, can be harnessed to operate a sort of basic engine. Rather than relying on the cyclic heating and cooling of a gas like classical combustion engines, the quantum engine transforms bosons into fermions and vice versa. The team found that while this engine only works in the quantum regime, it can reach up to 25% efficiency with the experimental setup built by collaborators in Germany. The new engine is a thrilling breakthrough in quantum mechanics with the potential to advance the rapidly growing field of quantum technologies. However, it remains unclear whether this will result in quantum mechanics being utilized to power things like automobiles in the near future. Read full article

Solar Airship One embarks on a 24,854-mile zero-emissions world tour powered by the Sun and hydrogen. A game-changer in sustainable aviation. Solar Airship One, a massive 495 feet (151 meters) in length, is a rigid airship boasting a helium expansion volume of 53,000 cubic meters. The key to its sustainability lies in its envelope, with an impressive 4,800 square meters of solar film. These solar panels harness sunlight during the day to power the airship’s electric propulsion systems while storing excess energy in fuel cells. By night, the stored energy is utilized as the fuel cells convert hydrogen produced through water electrolysis into electricity. Set to take flight in 2026, Solar Airship One represents a significant leap forward in the quest for environmentally friendly transportation. Read More
