Mercedes-Benz Trucks will celebrate the start of series production of the eActros 600 on November 22 of this year at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth. The eActros 600 was recently selected as “International Truck of the Year 2025” at the IAA-Transportation in Hannover. The first eActros 600 customer vehicles will be manufactured and registered before the end of 2024. In each vehicle, central components from the Mercedes-Benz plants in Gaggenau, Kassel and Mannheim will be installed. The front box is a complex technology module with several control units, high-voltage components and an electric air compressor, and is located in the space previously occupied by the combustion engine. In contrast to the diesel engine, the front box does not have a specific drive function, but contains a large number of components that are essential for the truck to operate. In total, there are more than 1,000 individual parts.

The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and the federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate approve funding totaling € 226 million for the development, small-series production and customer deployment (operation and maintenance) of 100 fuel cell trucks. The application had been subject to extensive review, also by the European Commission. Today, Dr. Volker Wissing (Federal Minister for Digital and Transport and Federal Minister of Justice) was joined by Daniela Schmitt (State Minister for Economics, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate) and Dr. Andre Baumann (State Secretary at the Ministry for the Environment, Climate and Energy Sector of the State of Baden-Württemberg) in handing over the notice of funding to Karin Rådström, CEO of Daimler Truck, at the Daimler Truck Test and Development Center in Wörth am Rhein. On the path to decarbonize transportation with hydrogen-powered trucks, Daimler Truck had filed an application for funding in 2021 for the development of fuel cell trucks and small series customer deployment in long-distance transportation. Daimler Truck will now receive around two thirds of the total eligible amount put forward in the IPCEI-funding application. Daimler Truck will continue to carry a significant part of the total investment in the development of fuel cell trucks on its own.
The funding project, created within the framework of the European Union’s IPCEI (Important Project of Common European Interest) Hydrogen program, covers both vehicle and production-related activities. In addition to the development and build-up of the vehicles, the funding will also be used for feasibility studies with regard to the hydrogen value chain as well as investments in required production facilities and processes in preparation for planned series production. Key components are set to be assembled at various German production sites and made available for final assembly. Kassel (electric drive axle) and Mannheim (“Tech Tower”) are two of the involved plants, while the fuel cells are planned to come from cellcentric’s pilot production in Esslingen and are set to be assembled into a twin-system at the Gaggenau plant. Final assembly of the next generation fuel cell trucks is set to take place at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Wörth and the trucks are expected to go into operation at various customers from the end of 2026 onwards. President-elect Donald Trump intends to revive the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline on his first day in office—just like President Biden shut it down on his first day in office. A Politico report citing unnamed sources with knowledge of the situation said that the president-elect’s transition team was discussing Keystone XL with a view to bringing it back to life. “It’s on the list of things they want to do first day,” one of the Politico sources said. The 1,200-mile pipeline, developed by TC Energy, was supposed to carry some 800,000 bpd of Canadian heavy crude to U.S. refineries. As proponents of the project have noted repeatedly in the past few years, the demand for these Canadian barrels did not die with Keystone XL. Canadian exports of heavy crude to the U.S. have remained high, and breaking records. Only the means of transporting them have changed from pipelines to oil trains. Read More

Stellantis N.V. unveiled the STLA Frame platform, a BEV-native, multi-energy platform engineered for full-size body-on-frame pickup trucks and SUVs – a critical segment in North America and select global markets.
Full-size truck and SUV owners demand uncompromised power and durability and prioritize capability, practicality and performance. STLA Frame platform is designed to deliver class-leading range of up to 690 miles/1,100 km with the REEV and 500 miles/800 km in BEV, a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds (6,350 kg) and a payload rating of 2,700 pounds (1,224 kg). Additionally, the platform supports water fording up to 24 inches (610 mm), making it ready for challenging environments and diverse use cases.
Intended to underpin Stellantis full-size pickup trucks, light commercial vehicles and SUVs, STLA Frame vehicles will initially be offered with an innovative propulsion lineup, including a full BEV system and a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) configuration. STLA Frame can also accommodate internal combustion, hybrid and hydrogen propulsion systems in the future.
The REEV system, which combines a battery, front and rear electric drive modules (EDMs), on-board generator and internal combustion engine, allows drivers to haul or tow heavy loads over extended distance without sacrificing range. With no direct mechanical path from the engine to the wheels, the generator powers the EDMs to propel the vehicle and recharges the battery as needed, ensuring extended range under load conditions, while benefitting from the torque of the electric engines that bring the vehicle’s dynamics to new heights. At the Milano Autoclassica show, the award ceremony has taken place for “Best in Classic 2024,” the competition conceived and curated by the editorial staff at Ruoteclassiche (Editoriale Domus). The award is intended to celebrate the outstanding cars that have distinguished themselves in the last 12 months by winning over the hearts of enthusiasts and contributing to the social, cultural, and economic growth of the entire sector.
Divided into 11 categories, all sharing the unbreakable bond between creations of the past and present, the competition is now in its fourth edition and, as usual, has witnessed the participation of readers and users of the magazine, who chose the winner of the “Classic Car of the Year” and “Classic Car of Tomorrow” by casting their votes on the Ruoteclassiche Instagram channel. The other nine awards were bestowed by a jury of experts chaired by the magazine’s director Gian Luca Pellegrini.
This year’s winner of the coveted title of “Best in Classic 2024”, in the “Reloaded” category, is the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, the Biscione brand’s new custom-built car based directly on the Tipo 33, a big name in world motoring and an icon of the 1960s, to this day still considered one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Made in only 33 exclusive units, the new two-seater coupé combines heritage and the future, and is produced according to a unique artisanal process, exactly the same way as in Renaissance artisan boutiques, and in the 1960s workshops of renowned Italian coachbuilders.
The jury’s official citation stated: “The new 33 Stradale is a car that manages to be a manifesto for the future and at the same time a tribute to the past. Its lines follow those traced in 1967 and yet speak of today, of new technologies and new propulsion systems. Lines that give shape to a dream, which has become a reality for only 33 fans of the brand.” Read full article

40 years ago, a success story begins at Mercedes-Benz which continues to this day: in November 1984, the brand unveils the saloons of the 124 model series. Just one month later, this completely redesigned generation of upper mid-size class vehicles hits the market. Customers and industry experts are captivated by its timelessly modern design and innovative engineering. From 1993 onwards, the 124 series was named E-Class for the first time. After 13 years of production and more than 2.2 million units, series production of the 124 model series ends in 1997. The saloons, estates (T-models), coupés and cabriolets quickly become highly sought-after modern classics. Rare versions attain the status of collector’s items years ago.
Today, every vehicle in the 124 model series is an invitation to philosophise. Is it a beloved witness to the vibrant 1980s and the dawn of the 1990s product offensive? Or is it a timeless classic remaining forever young? Without a doubt, this generation of upper mid-size class vehicles from Mercedes-Benz radiates a unique charm, reflected in the model series’ large fan base and its significant role in the classic car scene.
