Eni and UNESCO sign a MoU to promote local development in Mexico
Eni and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have signed a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Mexico to identify potential joint project initiatives that will contribute to boost the sustainable development of the local economy through economic diversification, protection of natural and cultural heritage, access to basic services and to respect and promote human rights and inclusion.
Under the MoU, the parties will evaluate specific opportunities of collaboration within several areas of intervention such as the conservation and sustainable management of natural resources. The partners also aim to collaborate in the protection and promotion of culture and traditional knowledge, promoting economic diversification.
“Sustainability plays a central role in Eni’s strategy and goes hand in hand with the development of business opportunities in the countries where the company operates. Mexico is a concrete example of such a model. We are implementing projects that are directly linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the carbon neutrality objectives, strengthening partnerships with international organizations. The MoU signed with UNESCO is a first step in this direction and will contribute to the sustainable development of Mexico”, said Alberto Piatti, Eni´s Head of Sustainable Development.
