Eni Mexico promotes oyster farming in Sanchez Magallanes, Tabasco

Eni Mexico delivers the first batch of baskets for oyster cultivation based on the Australian breeding method to promote oyster farming and benefit producers of the Carmen-Pajonal Lagoon System- Machona, in Sanchez Magallanes, Tabasco.

The first delivery of Australian baskets to the first 8 cooperatives was made on May 2nd at the presence of the Governor of the State of Tabasco, Carlos Manuel Merino Campos, and other members of his cabinet. This event was also attended by Giorgio Guidi, Managing Director of Eni Mexico, and representatives of the Juarez Autonomous University of Tabasco (UJAT).

This delivery is the first step on the full implementation of an integrated project through which Eni Mexico will provide to the local oyster farmers training and technical support along with specific equipment, for the implementation of the new technology. The project promoting the oyster farming has a duration of four years and is estimated to benefit up to 12 cooperatives.

Eni Mexico’s project seeks to improve the sustainable livelihood opportunities of the oyster farmers, supporting the production of better-quality oysters and expanding their commercial possibilities, since it is the main economic activity in these communities.

Mexico is a key country in Eni’s organic growth strategy. Eni Mexico is currently producing more than about 40 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboed) from the Area 1 development project, which is expected to be completed by 2025. The company has been present in the country since 2006 and currently has a stake in eight exploration and production blocks (six as Operator), all located in the Southeast Basin in the Gulf of Mexico.
