Eni signs Cooperation Agreement with UNDP to apply renewable solar technology in a Kazakhstan school

Eni and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kazakhstan have signed a Cooperation Agreement for the implementation of a Project to apply renewable solar technology and improve energy efficiency in a secondary school located in the city of Turkistan, South of Kazakhstan.

This Cooperation Agreement comes from a broader partnership signed between Eni and UNDP in September 2018 through a Memorandum of Understanding to address major challenges such as access to sustainable energy and climate change.

The project aims at introducing a renewable energy source to feed the school with solar energy up to 20 percent of its total electricity consumption. As an overall outcome, the school’s energy consumptions, spending and CO2 emissions will be decreased by at least 20 percent. Moreover, the project will conduct training and awareness raising on energy efficiency and green energy for school children, school personnel and local community.

This project between Eni and UNDP Kazakhstan will contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, including Goals 7 and 13, aimed at ensuring access to affordable and sustainable energy for all and combating climate change and its impact. This initiative, which can be replicated in other facilities, aims to be a demonstration that through partnerships between public and private organizations, by joining forces, such challenges are better tackled.
