Eni starts producing vegetable oil for biorefining in Mozambique

London, 21 December 2023, (Oilandgaspress): – Eni Rovuma Basin (ERB) announces the beginning of production of vegetable oil which will be used as feedstock in Eni’s biorefineries. This initiative is part of Eni’s strategy to contribute to the decarbonization of transportation, and it will include Mozambique in the value chain of sustainable mobility.

The vegetable oil has been extracted from by-products from local agro-processing factories, that is certified under the ISCC-EU scheme, avoiding land use change, assuring traceability, respect of environment and human rights.

ERB plans to further develop the project in Mozambique, involving thousands of local farmers and developing the industrial platform for the agri-feedstocks’ production in the country, promoting socio-economic development in rural areas and regeneration of degraded agricultural land.

ERB will support farmers through know-how transfer and the introduction of mechanization and best practices, to further develop and strengthening local capabilities.
