Essential Utilities Recognized among the 50 Most Community-Minded Businesses in the Greater Philadelphia Region

BRYN MAWR, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Essential Utilities Inc. (NYSE: WTRG) has been named a 2025 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, in partnership with globally recognized nonprofit Point of Light, lead partner the Philadelphia Foundation, and other local partners. Modeled after Points of Light’s national program, the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia measures and recognizes companies using their time, talent and resources to set the standard for civic engagement in the region.

“Whether through our work to deliver vital resources safely and reliably, or volunteering to improve our communities, Essential Utilities focuses daily on finding ways to make a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives,” said Christopher Franklin, Essential’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “This honor would not be possible without the tireless work of our Essential team, and we’re humbled to see their efforts recognized by the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia.

The 2025 Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia honorees represent private and public companies, as well as nonprofits, agencies and institutions of more than 10 employees operating in the 11-county Greater Philadelphia region. Essential Utilities, and other honorees, have been selected based on four dimensions of their community engagement program:

  • Investment of resources: The Essential Foundation invests about $2 million annually in the Greater Philly region, where the company is headquartered.
  • Integration across business functions: Community engagement, particularly related to environmental protection, is key to Essential’s mission of protecting and providing earth’s most essential resources.
  • Institutionalization through policies and systems: Essential’s service culture is ingrained in its business practices and employee engagement. Examples include a paid volunteer program and a matching gift program.
  • Impact measurement: Essential tracks the impact of its charitable campaigns and volunteer work surrounding environmental protection, food insecurity, and water safety.

Since 2011, the national Civic 50 has provided a national standard for superior corporate citizenship and showcased how companies drive social impact in their business and within the community.

“The Chamber is proud to recognize Essential Utilities as a 2025 honoree of the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia,” said Chellie Cameron, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber. “Each of this year’s honorees are valued members of Greater Philadelphia’s business community, exemplifying what it means to be a positive corporate citizen and demonstrating the power of service. We thank Essential Utilities for their efforts and congratulate them on this tremendous achievement.”
