FreeWire Technologies Named Finalist in Fast Company’s 2022 World Changing Ideas Awards
OAKLAND, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, FreeWire Technologies Inc. is pleased to be named a finalist in Fast Company’s 2022 World Changing Ideas Awards’ Transportation Category for its flagship product, the Boost Charger. The annual awards honor innovative corporate initiatives, clean technology, brave new designs for cities and buildings, and other creative works that are supporting the growth of positive social innovation, tackling social inequality, climate change, and public health crises.
“FreeWire is honored to have our Boost Charger recognized by Fast Company as a World Changing Idea,” said FreeWire CEO and Founder Arcady Sosinov. “As the United States and the world move towards electrified transportation, the most significant barrier to mass EV adoption is the electric grid. FreeWire’s technology is making it possible to deploy ultrafast charging just about anywhere, allowing new participants to enter the electric vehicle charging market more quickly and at a lower cost than previously possible.”
FreeWire Technologies is an industry leader in ultrafast, battery-integrated electric vehicle (EV) charging and energy management solutions. Just last month, FreeWire was named to Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2022.
“Fast Company relishes its role in amplifying important, innovative work to address big challenges,” says David Lidsky, interim editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “Our journalists have identified some of the most ingenious initiatives to launch since the start of 2021, which we hope will both have a meaningful impact and lead others to join in being part of the solution.”
FreeWire’s Boost Charger can connect to existing urban grids, making charging far more accessible to areas with higher population density. It has similar benefits in remote areas where power supplies tend to be less reliable. Boost Chargers have been installed in remote tourist locations like Homer, Alaska, and the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, bringing ultrafast EV charging to edge of the grid locations where it was not previously possible. The ability to accelerate EV adoption while accounting for the grid’s limitations may very well be the missing link in the energy transition to zero-emission EVs.
As FreeWire’s technology continues to stand out from the crowd, investors have taken note. Last week, FreeWire raised an additional $125 million in new capital from investors including asset manager BlackRock Inc.
