Finavia’s Helsinki Airport operations reach net-zero carbon emissions Airport company Finavia’s Helsinki Airport has achieved net-zero carbon emissions targets in its own operations and has received an international Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program’s net-zero certification. Neste MY Renewable Diesel™, powering the machinery and emergency power generators at the Helsinki Airport since 2024, has played a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Finavia aims to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of all its airports to net zero by the end of 2025.

“Finavia’s operations at its 20 airports have been carbon neutral since 2019. Reaching net-zero targets at Helsinki Airport is the result of long-term and systematic work. The requirements for reaching net-zero level under the ACA program include that carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by at least 90 percent, residual emissions are neutralized, and that an external party verifies the emissions data and operations. Helsinki Airport is the fifth Finavia airport to receive the net-zero certificate. In 2023, four Lapland airports received the certificate. The use of Neste’s renewable diesel has been central to reducing our emissions,” says Henri Hansson, Finavia’s Senior Vice President, Sustainability, Technology & Safety.

With Neste MY Renewable Diesel, produced for the Finnish market from 100% waste and residues, Finavia has reduced greenhouse gas emissions from its machinery and emergency power generators at the Helsinki Airport by 90%* on average when emissions over the fuel’s life cycle are compared with fossil diesel.

At Finavia’s airports, machinery accounts for 80% of the company’s fuel use. This includes, for example, high-powered sweepers and snowplows used to clear runways and for the maintenance of the airport’s apron. They represent a heavy machinery segment in which electrification is very difficult due to high power requirements. Neste’s renewable diesel can be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in existing fleet and machinery without additional investments in or modifications to existing equipment.

The all-new Nissan LEAF  Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today divulges details of the third-generation LEAF’s enhanced suspension and maneuverability, improved heat regeneration features and quieter, more refined cabin.

Richard Candler, Vice president global product strategy said “The all-new LEAF delivers a responsive, smooth and confident drive. All elements have been optimized to support efficiency.”

The all-new LEAF is the first model to adopt Nissan’s all-new, 3-in-1 electric powertrain, which is 10 percent smaller than the motor used in the outgoing LEAF and offers up to 160 kW (214hp) power and 355 Nm (261ft-lb) of Torque on selected variants. Furthermore, improvements in noise and vibration ensure a quieter, more refined cabin. At urban speeds of 50 km/h (~31 mph), the interior of the all-new LEAF is up to 2 decibels quieter than the already hushed second-generation model.

With the compact powertrain, Nissan engineers positioned the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) unit under the hood, rather than behind the instrument panel. The result is a more spacious, open feeling within the cabin.

The all-new LEAF also benefits from a multi-link rear suspension system with a 66 percent increase in lateral stiffness. Combined with the CMF-EV platform and a more rigid body structure, the all-new LEAF delivers enhanced agility and improved ride comfort.

Despite the larger available 19-inch wheels, the all-new LEAF achieves up to 0.1-meter (3.94-inch) improvement in turning radius, enhancing maneuverability in urban environments. This improvement is facilitated by an upgraded rack electronic power steering system, resulting in a minimum turning radius of 5.3 meters.

new Nigerian blend hits market Nigerian crude traded slightly higher than Brent crude amid ongoing dynamics in the global oil market.

Nigeria’s major oil blends, Brass River, Bonny Light, and Qua Iboe, last traded at $67.30 per barrel on Friday, marginally higher than the current Brent contract, as oil traders monitored ongoing peace talks between China and the United States. Green Energy International Limited (GEIL) has completed its first crude oil export from the newly constructed Otakikpo onshore terminal. According to the company, the shipment occurred on Sunday, June 8, at around 2:00 PM, when a Shell-chartered vessel lifted the terminal’s first consignment of crude oil.

Located in the Otakikpo marginal field in Rivers State, the Otakikpo terminal is Nigeria’s first privately built and operated onshore crude export terminal in over 50 years. GEIL Chairman, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, described the achievement as historic.

WTI offers advantages over Nigerian crude, particularly in yielding higher-quality reformates and enhancing gasoline (petrol) blending capabilities.

Nigerian Army dismantles 27 bunkering sites The Nigerian Army’s 6 Division has arrested 43 suspected oil thieves and dismantled 27 illegal bunkering sites across the Niger Delta in a large-scale operation aimed at combating oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

The crackdown, carried out in collaboration with other security agencies from May 26 to June 8, resulted in the recovery of more than 161,000 litres of stolen petroleum products.
Further operations in Southern Ijaw and Ekeremor Local Government Areas uncovered an illegal refining site at Luka Creek. Authorities seized 71 large pipes, 30 small pipes, and a 40HP engine concealed beneath logs, which were abandoned by fleeing vandals.

In Rivers State, the military intercepted several vessels carrying stolen Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), including a large wooden barge and two boats, confiscating over 45,000 litres of the fuel. Eight suspects were arrested during these seizures.

faults found in new energy cars – J.D. Power The initial quality of new energy vehicles in China has declined for the second consecutive year, with an average of 226 problems reported per 100 vehicles, according to a J.D. Power study released on Thursday.

That figure marks a 16-problem increase from 2024 but suggests a slowing rate of decline compared to the 37-problem rise recorded in 2023.

Now in its seventh year, the study was based on responses from 20,829 NEV owners who purchased their vehicles between July 2024 and January 2025.

It evaluated 122 models from 48 brands, 107 of which met the sample size requirement. Data collection occurred from January to March 2025 across 81 Chinese cities, said J.D. Power.

Problems are categorized as either design-related or defect/malfunction-related, based on issues reported by owners within the first two to six months of ownership.

Despite the continued rise in reported issues, J.D. Power says signs of progress are emerging in certain areas.

Infotainment systems remain the most problematic component, with an average of 31 problems per 100 cars — unchanged from 2024, according to the study.

Among 10 major categories, the largest increase was seen in configuration and control systems (+3.5 per 100), underscoring the challenges automakers face in maintaining basic usability amid rapid technological upgrades.

In contrast, the battery and charging category saw an improvement of 3.2 per 100, led by gains in pure electric range performance — reflecting the maturity of core NEV technologies.

Plug-in hybrids and range-extended electric vehicles continue to grow in market share but both vehicle types posted higher-than-average problem rates.

PHEVs averaged 234 per 100, while REEVs stood at 235 per 100, compared to 220 per 100 for battery-only EVs, according to the study.
