MTR Carbon Capture Selected to Provide a Capture Plant to TSMC

MTR Will Install the Membrane System at the TSMC Taichung Zero-Waste Solvent Incineration Facility in 2025

NEWARK, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–MTR Carbon Capture has been contracted by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to supply a Polaris™ membrane carbon capture system to treat emissions from a TSMC solvent incineration facility in Taiwan. The capture unit will be installed at TSMC’s Taichung Zero-Waste Manufacturing Center by the end of 2025. This project will serve to showcase the effectiveness of MTR’s clean membrane capture technology by reducing carbon emissions from TSMC operations. Future larger Polaris systems are planned for deployment at additional TSMC facilities, as well as at waste-to-energy plants in the region. MTR is working jointly on this project with Taiwan’s largest engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, CTCI.

“This is an important first step in deploying clean Polaris capture systems in Taiwan to help a global leader like TSMC decarbonize their operations. We look forward to working with TSMC and CTCI to make this project a great success,” said Brett Andrews, President of MTR Carbon Capture.

MTR’s Polaris membrane process produces no chemical emissions and uses little water, making it a much cleaner and environmentally-friendly capture approach compared to alternative solvent-based capture systems. Polaris also does not require heat or steam input, as many capture approaches do, resulting in low operating costs. The membrane capture systems are highly modular and compact, providing flexibility for space constrained applications and reducing capital costs.
