NRG Surpasses $5M in Contributions to Seven Nonprofits Through Its Charitable ‘Choose to Give’ Program

PHILADELPHIA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#charity–NRG, one of the nation’s leading electricity and natural gas suppliers, is celebrating a $5 million milestone for its charitable program, Choose to Give. Thanks to customers who have chosen this innovative program, seven nonprofits across the East Coast and Midwest have received millions to invest in the communities they serve.
NRG’s Choose to Give, which launched in 2017, allows customers to support local nonprofits simply by paying their electricity and natural gas bills. Through this initiative, NRG makes a $50 contribution for every electricity customer and a $25 contribution for every natural gas customer that signs up for one of these plans. Then, each year the customer remains on the plan, NRG contributes 1% of the supply portion of the customer’s bill to that nonprofit.
“Through the Choose to Give program, NRG has been able to engage meaningfully with our customers and their communities,” said Mike Starck, Vice President and General Manager, NRG Home, East Region. “By simply doing everyday things like turning on their lights, running their washing machine, and watching TV, our customers can support the incredible work done by these organizations. We’re extremely grateful of our customers for reaching this milestone and are honored to help them continue to do good.”
The program supports five children’s hospitals, including Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Boston Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, and Nemours Children’s Health. Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence and Philabundance in Philadelphia are also partners.
“Because of the partnership between NRG and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health is able to orchestrate the most advanced care for patients with congenital anomalies,” said Dr. Aimen Shaaban, Director, The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health; Attending Physician, Pediatric Surgery; Member, Lurie Children’s Surgical Foundation. “NRG’s support allows the Institute to push the boundaries of fetal medicine and serve every family who turns to us for help. Thank you for all you do to help support this worthy cause and improve the lives of some of the most medically fragile patients at Lurie Children’s.”
