At the Board of Directors meeting on February 25, Toyota resolved to transition from a Company with an Audit and Supervisory Board to a Company with an Audit and Supervisory Committee following approval at the Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders to be held in June. Chief Officer of General Administration & Human Resources Group Takanori Azuma explains, “Auditors and directors are in different positions. The Board of Directors is essentially a forum for discussions among directors, with auditors auditing that process. Because of this role, auditors may be reluctant to speak up, making it difficult for them to engage as actively in discussions as the directors.”

Having all the Board of Directors members participate as decision-makers allows for diverse perspectives and lively discussions, the ultimate aim behind this change. Toyota expects this change to not only reinvigorate the Board of Directors but to boost decision-making speed as well.

A Company with an Audit and Supervisory Committee allows the Board of Directors to delegate important business execution decisions to the executive directors. Read More

Albania was recently discovered to be harboring a giant secret: the largest geothermally-heated underground lake in the world.

Discovered in 2021 by Czech scientists, geopolitical troubles on the border region with Greece saw them depart before a proper investigation of the cave could be made.

What they did find though was a massive column of steam rising out of the hills in an area around the town of Leskovik. Approaching it, they encountered a massive abyss descending 330 feet (100 meters) under the Earth. Exploring down, they found this massive lake of turquoise water that was geothermally heated. Funded by a research grant from the Neuron Foundation, which supports pioneering scientists in Czechia, the team was able to return in 2024 for a proper study.

The scientists used state-of-the-art technologies during the expedition, including a mobile LiDAR scanner, which allowed for detailed mapping of the underground spaces. Precise geodetic measurements created a comprehensive map of the Atmos Cave and other nearby caves, such as Sulfur, Breška, and Kobyla, which were already discovered in 2021. Read More

Solar is one of the best solutions to the growing demand for renewable green energy. However, while conventional solar panels contribute to clean energy production, their disposal presents several environmental challenges.

Now, a groundbreaking innovation may change that: researchers have developed a method to fully recycle modern solar panels using water as the main solvent, which would make it a truly sustainable energy.

The method from scientists at Linköping University in Sweden can recycle all parts of a modern solar cell repeatedly without environmentally hazardous solvents—and the recycled solar cell has the same efficiency as the original one.

The method works with one of the most promising technologies for next-generation solar cells: perovskite.

Perovskite solar cells are not only relatively inexpensive and easy to manufacture but also lightweight, flexible, and transparent. Thanks to these properties, they can be placed on many different surfaces, like windows. Also, they can convert up to 25 percent of the solar energy into electricity—comparable to today’s silicon solar cells. Read More
