Petrobras and Braskem sign agreement

London, April 05, 2025, (Oilandgaspress) –––Petrobras and Braskem celebrated, this Friday (28/3), the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) with the objective of deepening the studies of opportunities for carbon capture and storage (CCS ) projects in Bahia. The event took place at the Torre Pituba Building, in Salvador, which is Petrobras’ headquarters in Bahia. The MoU formalizes that the companies intend to study potential mutually beneficial business models in the low-carbon economy, in processes that aim to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere.

The companies will seek to jointly evaluate technical aspects related to the capture, transportation and storage of CO2, as well as potential business models between the companies. This initiative could represent the initial development of a hub in the region. In the hub, CO2 is captured in different locations and emission sources (petrochemical industry, refinery, steel industry, thermoelectric plants, among others) and transported through a network of connected pipelines, which can be shared and optimized for the storage of large quantities of CO2 in suitable and monitored geological reservoirs.
