Range Energy Unveils Full MVT Solutions Report that Validates Fuel and Emissions Improvements from Electric-Powered Trailers

Third-party results show 36.9 percent fuel efficiency gains and 28.7 percent reduction in engine load

Range internal testing shows up to 68 percent reduction in NOx emissions

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Range Energy (Range), the hardware company bringing powered trailers to the commercial trucking market, today unveiled the full certified fuel economy test report by Mesilla Valley Transportation Solutions (MVTS), which highlighted 36.9 percent fuel efficiency improvements (+3.25 MPG) achieved with Range’s electric-powered trailer. The full MVTS report concluded several other improvements, including a 28.7 percent reduction in engine load, which is directly related to fuel saving.

MVTS’ testing was conducted in El Paso, TX on a 25.5-mile route that was a mix of urban and highway conditions to replicate real-world driving, and was segmented to analyze performance in stop/go and steady-state flat road conditions. MVTS driver satisfaction was also recorded with the Range trailer. Specifically, drivers reported the trailer’s power application made the load light and easy to pull and did not give the feeling of the trailer pushing the tractor.

In addition, Range has been conducting internal testing on the same RA-01 alpha-level trailer asset and measured between a 34.5–68 percent decrease in NOx in various driving conditions. Range’s testing was conducted in and around Mountain View, CA on a 34.1 mile route, providing a similar mix of urban and highway driving. The close correlation of third-party and in-house testing results provides high confidence in the validity of Range’s testing methodology and projected performance.

“Results from MVTS’ certified testing paired with our fuel and emissions savings testing prove Range’s ability to optimize drive behavior and efficiency, quantifying significant fuel savings and electric energy consumed,” said Ali Javidan, CEO and founder, Range Energy. “With these test results, we can provide accurate predictions of efficiency and safety improvements and emissions reductions, accelerating the decarbonization of commercial trucking.”

Findings from these reports underscore Range’s commitment to paving a path toward a cleaner future for commercial trucking and come on the heels of significant commercial and corporate milestones. Range recently announced a collaboration with Thermo King to accelerate the commercialization of the refrigerated version of Range’s electric-powered trailer, a pilot with DB Schenker, $23.5 million in new financing, and launched its Dealer Advisory Council to support commercialization.
