Saudi Electricity Signs MoUs to Foster Sustainability and Address Environmental Challenges

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Saudi Electricity Company signed today several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and cooperation agreements with various government entities focused on sustainability, environmental protection, and vegetation enhancement. These agreements were signed on the sidelines of the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, held in Riyadh.

The MoUs aim to strengthen collaboration with government bodies and expand the company’s investments in environmental preservation, in line with its strategy for environmental, social, and corporate governance practices.

The agreements were signed with the Royal Commission for King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the National Center for Wildlife Development, the National Center for Environmental Compliance, the Imam Abdulaziz bin Mohammed Royal Reserve Development Authority, and the King Khalid Foundation.

Additionally, Saudi Electricity has partnered with six local companies to commit to the Ministry of Economy and Planning’s Sustainability Pioneers Program initiative.

These initiatives aim to foster sustainability knowledge, encourage sustainable practices, address major environmental challenges, promote biodiversity, and preserve vegetation. They also seek to unify efforts in wildlife conservation, particularly for endangered species and biodiversity habitats, restore mangrove habitats, and explore the benefits of carbon credits.

Furthermore, the company plans to plant 2 million trees to preserve biodiversity and vegetation cover and collaborate on green opportunities grants, which focus on empowering community members with job and professional skills in non-profit sectors specializing in environmental issues King Khalid Foundation
